PREP ENROLMENTS 2018 Children born 1 JULY 2012—30 June 2013

Parents at Fairview who have younger siblings that are eligible to attend Prep in 2018 please contact the office as soon as possible to enrol your child so we can gauge our future numbers.

FOOTSTEPS Footsteps continues. The course objectives are to learn about the traditional forms of dance, dance skills, social skills and confi-dence. This is an 8 week course and is held each Monday during school time between 1.30pm and 3.00pm for students in Years 1-3. We had a Footsteps lesson today, as the instructor was away on Monday 29 May.

SCHOOL MUSICAL This year our Musical is: “Mystery at Magpie Manor” The Mu-sical will involve students from Years 4-6. The Musical will be held at the Highfields Cultural Centre on Thursday 14 Septem-ber. As stated in our last newsletter, the timeline has closed for the return of the permission notes, so no more will be taken.

This week I have been conducting the auditions for the major speaking parts for the school musical and will announce which students have these parts at the end of this term. I will then give those successful students an information sheet for their parents to read and sign, to say that they are willing to allow their child to undertake a main part in the musical. What this means is that they are agreeing to the commitment that is in-volved in being part of the musical.

As next Term progresses, there will be more notes about cos-tumes and other requests for help. We are all excited about the forthcoming musical and I know that you will enjoy the musical when we present it at the Highfields Cultural Centre.

SCHOOL PRIORITIES—Say the 5 to Prioritise Priorities for 2017 are the same as 2016 as we continue to strengthen the great work already started.

Reading Quickwrites Number Fact Recall Attendance Behaviour

Each fortnight I will include each one of our 5 School Priorities and this will then give parents/caregivers an insight into what areas our school is concentrating on throughout 2017. This fort-night the priority is READING. Please read and enjoy.

EVERY DAY COUNTS

The holidays are fast approaching. While it may be tempting to let your child stay home for the last day or even the last week of term, our school would prefer to see every child on every day of every term. We strongly believe children need to attend school every day to receive the most benefits from their education. Did you realise that skipping the last day of every term adds up to more than a whole term of schooling missed throughout a child’s education? Skipping a whole week of school each term means your child will miss more than 15 months of their education! For further infor-mation on the importance of regular school attendance, please visit www.education.qld.gov.au/everydaycounts/posters.html

P&C MEETING Our next P&C Meeting will be held on Tuesday 13 June, commenc-ing at 7.00pm in the Staff Room. Everyone is welcome to attend.

DENTAL VAN The Dental Van will be at Fairview Heights until Friday 16 June.

NEWSPAPERS, NEWSPAPERS, NEWSPAPERS The wheelie bins located at the front of the school are our collection point for Newspapers. This is raising funds for sporting equipment etc. It is so easy to do - put your newspaper in the bins and the D&S paper company PAYS the school for the Newspapers. Many thanks to the families that are sending their newspapers to Fairview for recycling.

Next Friday 16 June is Under 8's Day and Junior Sports Carnival. Children who are in Prep, 1,2 and the children in Year 3 who don't attend the senior sports carnival, will be able to attend.

There are many fun activities, some of them sports related for the children to do on the oval. Come along between 9 -11am and en-joy these activities with your children. Little ones and family mem-bers are most welcome. There is food and coffee available too. At approximately 10:15am we will pack up the activities and get ready for the sprint races. All children are able to be in the sprints starting with the Preps and going through to Year 3's. Please see the note handed out for full details of this exciting day! Positive Behaviour for Learning Program (PBL) UPDATE

So many positive activities happening at Fairview Heights State School!! Students enjoying delicious Cupcake Morning Teas, creating Lego Masterpieces, enjoying Big Fort Play, along with Green Zone Play as well. These Students continue to diligently display our Whole School Behaviour Expectations and are reaping the rewards of their efforts. Well Done!!

Our End of Term Celebration is fast approaching. This is our way as a School Com-munity of rewarding those Students who make positive behaviour choices each and every day. If your child has received a Major Behaviour Referral or their Attendance has fallen below our School Benchmark, they will not be permitted to attend the Cele-bration.

As a Parent/Carer there are a number of ways you can support your child with PBL. Positively talking about our Whole School Expectations and our weekly behaviour focus are simple, but effective ways, of supporting your child on their Learning jour-ney.
