The Tenth Convocation of Dr B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar was held on 04/04/2015 for the award of BTech/MTech/MSc and PhD degrees to 2013 and 2014 pass out students. Professor Sanjay Govind Dhande, Former Director, IIT Kanpur was the Chief Guest on the occasion and delivered the Convocation Address. Shri Rajiv Mehrotra, Chairperson, Board of Governors, NIT Jalandhar presided over the function. Dr I K Bhat, Director personally supervised all the arrangements. Shri Rajiv Mehrotra, Chairman, BOGs was also present at the venue. During 10

th Convocation, the Chief Guest,

Professor Sanjay Govind Dhande distributed 1650 degrees. Out of this, 1185 (B.Tech), 352 (M.Tech), 74 (M.Sc) and 39 (Ph.D) degrees were awarded to the degree recipients. Institute Gold Medals for Highest overall CGPA for 2009-13 and 2010-14 batches were awarded to B. Tech students Mr Raghav Aggarwal and Ms. Ritika Khanna respectively both from ECE Discipline.

Dr H M Mittal attended and presented a research paper entitled “Test of Rigid Triaxiality in 126-132Ce nuclei” in European Radioactive Ion Beam Conference-2015 (EURORIB-15) at Hohenroda, Germany from 07-06 2015 to 12.06.2015.

Two test rigs, viz. a viz. pulse-jet filtration test rig

and industrial filtration rig (Project PI: A

Mukhopadhyay, Co-Investigator: A K

Choudhary).have been developed through a

project supported by Instrumentation

Development Programme (IDP) under

Department of Science & Technology (DST),

Government of India. Pulse-jet Filtration

Instrument can be used for the assessment of

filtration performance of filter media (in flat form)

challenged with aerosol; whereas Standardized

Industrial test rig can be used for the assessment

of filtration performance of filter media in tubular

form similar to industrial set up maintaining clean

air requirement. The cost involved of this

research project was Rs 52.28 lacs and

completed successfully on March 2015.

A R&D project on Design of Instrument for

Positive Thread Feeding in Sewing Machines

was approved by Department of Science &

Technology (DST), Government of India on

16/02/2015. An amount of Rs 22.11 lakhs has

been sanctioned for the aforementioned project.

Project PI and co-PI are Dr V K Midha and Dr A

Mukhopadhyay.

Chairing two sessions by Dr A Mukhopadhyay and Dr A K Choudhary in FILTECH 2015 conference

Newly developed filtration test rigs at NITJ were highlighted in poster session in the conference

among the researchers, industrial practitioners and buyers. Both these test rigs are unique in the world for characterizing fabric filter media used for particulate emission control in industries. These test rigs, have been developed through a project supported by Instrumentation Development Programme (IDP) under Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India. Recently NIT Jalandhar (Project PI: A Mukhopadhyay, Co-Investigator: A K Choudhary) has transferred the right of manufacturing of test rigs to Kanwal Enterprises, Gurgaon, (Hr.) on December 15, 2014.

Dr Harleen Dahiya, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics has been nominated as Distinguished Young Scientist (among young researchers) recognised for her contribution in “Flagship program of Indo-U.S. Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF) in Science and Technology”.
