Issue 3 October 2021 About the Keith Hay Park construction site Our Keith Hay Park site has been progressing well. Since our last bulletin we have been constructing a diversion chamber in our site. The diversion chamber is 4m deep, 5m long and 3.8m wide. This chamber will take overflows from existing wastewater pipes and divert the wastewater through a concrete pipe into our Central Interceptor main tunnel. The tunnel will be accessed via the 78m deep cascade shaft we’re building at the Keith Hay Park site. Part of setting up the diversion chamber is establishing a smaller temporary site extending our current site in Keith Hay Park to connect everything together. We will start shaft drilling and construction later this year to get ready for the arrival of the tunnel boring machine (TBM). The TBM is named Hiwa-i-te-Rangi after one of the Matariki stars. Hiwa-i-te-Rangi has just begun her journey from our Māngere construction site and will travel under the Manukau Harbour via our Onehunga site on Frederick Street before arriving at Keith Hay Park. We’re build ing the Central I nterc eptor, a super-siz ed waste water tun nel to reduce ov erflows, creating a bet ter enviro nme nt for y ou t o enj oy. About the Keith Hay Park construction site Our Keith Hay Park site has been progressing well.

We’re building the Central Interceptor, a super-sized wastewater tunnel to reduce overflows, creating a better environment for you to enjoy.

Being a good neighbourErnest and Paerata are based at our Keith Hay Park site and were recently presented with a wellbeing award for their quick thinking and kind actions to help a fellow man in need.

Ernie was driving home from work and saw a man on a bridge. He pulled over to help. Paerata followed soon after. The guys talked to the distressed man and calmed him down while they called the police. After 45 minutes the man agreed to come down off the bridge safely and talk to the police.

We are very proud of the actions that Ernest and Paerata took to help save the man's life. Their actions exemplify our company values of care, trust and respect. Part of the award included vouchers which our caring colleagues put towards shouting lunch for the team at Keith Hay Park.

Watercare and GAJV is a foundation partner of MATES in Construction, a charity that delivers a programme to reduce suicides in the building and construction industry. MATES plays an important role on the project providing support and training to staff to look after the mental health of all workers.

Our people Introducing one of our incredible team members working in your local area.

Full name: Zeeshan Shaikh

Background: Born in Mumbai, India, grew up in Auckland, New Zealand (since 2002)

Position: Site Engineer, Keith Hay Park

Previous jobs: After completing a graduate programme, I worked on Transmission Gully, out of Wellington, the Baypark to Bayfair link upgrade in Mt Maunganui and Waikeria Prison near Te Awamutu

Most memorable work moment: While I was working on the Transmission Gully project, I was part of the civil works teams of the southern section, responsible for the construction of surface drainage along two kilometres of the project. Our team was the first to complete these works. It was a good feeling to be able to hand over such a critical part of the project as this would eventually tie in to the existing motorway and would be the first section of works visible to the public when traveling north from Wellington CBD

Outside of work: I am obsessed with Latin dancing (salsa and bachata) and go dancing at least three days a week. I like to relax by playing the piano (mainly classical/contemporary) and love to go out on the weekends and discover new restaurants and bars. I’m also a big fan of languages: I speak French and Hindi fluently and am currently learning both Spanish and Italian.
