the iMAC istituto Mediterraneo di Arte Classica (Mediterranean Classical Art Institute) is a European consortium that supports independent artistic and humanistic studies. Located in Roma (Pantheon and EUR), the Institute has other sites in Cerveteri / Castello Rúspoli, Arpino (Ciceronis Arpinium), Napoli (Nea-polis), Siracusa (Sirakosion), Palermo (Panormo), Toulon (Hyères), Marseille (Massalia), Sagunto (Arse-Sagvnt), Valencia C/. Reloj Viejo, 3 (Valentia), Valldigna (Alfandec), Xàtiva (Saiti-Saetabis), Denia (Dianium-Hemeroskopeion), Benimeli (Segaria), Palma de Mallorca (Majurka-Kromyoussa), Ibiza (Ebusus), Cartagena (Cartago-Nova), Cadiz (Gades), Lisboa (Olisipo) and Porto (Portus-Galus). Each year, an international call is arranged for a Magister Artis Experience: 20 emerging artists (Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Musical Composition, Poetry or Visual Arts) participate, as well as social and political leaders and 20 scholars (from the fields of Ancient, Medieval and Modern Mediterranean Studies) from International and Cultural Relations Programs.

PÉrgamo Ciudad griega en la antigua Anatolia, región de Misia, a 28 kilómetros del mar Egeo, frente a la isla de Lesbos, inventora del pergamino, capital del reino atálida como segunda Atenas, después aliada de Roma y una de las 7 iglesias del Apocalipsis de San Juan.

vertidos en aliados de Roma, mantuvieron a Pérgamo como una de las más deslumbrantes ciudades del imperio hasta los tiempos de Adriano y Trajano.

Para magnificar la estirpe real de la dinastía y sus victorias sobre los galos invasores, los reyes de Pérgamo hicieron espléndidos regalos en Olimpia,
Delfos y Atenas (la stoa de Atalo, la stoa de Eumenes) y transformaron la primitiva fortaleza en una espectacular acrópolis, colosal y aterrazada con templos (Atenea, Zeus / Júpiter, Trajano), biblioteca (rival de la biblioteca de Alejandría, que
gozaba del monopolio del papiro lo que obligó a inventar la piel pergamina) mercado, palacios, jardines y teatros abiertos al horizonte (con capacidad para mas de 10.000 espectadores), y, sobre todo, el Altar de Pérgamo cum-
bre de monumentalidad al parecer dedicado, por encima de las luchas olímpicas del pasado, a un Dios Único sin forma ni nombre sobre el que avanzaba la nueva filosofía griega de los estóicos. titanomachia o gigantomaquiaLa lucha de los titanes o gigantes contra los dioses y los héroes mortales (Hércules y Dionisos) es uno de los mas complejos y reformulados argumentos de la mitología clásica. En el gran friso que rodeaba el Altar de Pérgamo (con 120 metros de perímetro) en cuatro caras están identificadas 24 figuras o personajes, desarrolla con tremendo dramatismo la reacción de Zeus y sus dioses contra los titanes o gigantes engendrados por Gea, (la Tierra) de la sangre sin virilidad de Urano (el Cielo) que con sus monstruosas extremidades (serpientes, peces, etc) pretenden escalar el Olimpo. Según el oráculo los dioses se pueden oponer a los monstruos si un mortal (Hércules) se integra en la lucha. Del hijo de Hércules (Telefos) descienden los atálidas o reyes de Pérgamo. Zeus, Poseidón, Atenea, Afrodita, Tritón, Castor y Polux, Oceano, Tetis, Helios (el sol) Selene (la luna) Eos (la aurora) y los vientos (Notos, Boreas, Zefiros, Euros) participan en esta batalla de la primera confusión del mundo.

A partir de 1871 el ingeniero Carl Humann y el arqueólogo Alexander Conze, descubren e identifican el valiosísimo conjunto y asumen la no menos colosal tarea de su excavación, compra y traslado a la Isla de los Museos de Berlín.
