Our formal parent/teacher interview evening will be held later in the year, so this is an opportunity to come along and meet your child’s teachers, and ask any questions you may have about their subjects or how they are settling in to high school. There won’t be any formal presentations, so feel free to call in any time between 3.30-4.30pm for some afternoon tea and a chat. It’s been a great start to the year, and I’ve enjoyed visiting many of our classes. A few highlights have been the Mexican Fiesta in our Autism Class with Miss Coleman (the students made me nachos and tacos!), cooking lessons with our Junior IM Class and Ms Kirby (whose students made me choc chip cookies) and Ms Elderfield’s 9.2 English class who shared their presentations on Aboriginal history and culture (and gave me a chocolate cupcake with a witchetty grub!). There seems to be a pattern emerging! We really are so fortunate at Nowra High School to have such hard working and professional teachers who go out of their way to make learning meaningful, engaging and fun for our students. Our Swimming Carnival last week was a huge success, with staff and students in attendance reporting that they had a fantastic day. Congratulations to all of the competitors, and to our brave entrants in the staff race. Thank you to all of the staff who assisted on the day and to the PDHPE staff for their organisation of this great event. Special thanks to our carnival coordinator Ms Little, who has already started work on the Cross Country Carnival. She is a superstar! Next Thursday we have a group of students and teachers from Aix-en- Provence in France arriving for an exchange program at Nowra High School. Our students who travelled to Europe last year met many of these students as part of their tour, and we’re looking forward to welcoming these visitors. Mrs Leslie has some great activities planned for the French students and their hosts, and I’m sure our French language classes will greatly benefit from practising their French on some native speakers. I am grateful to all of the families who were so willing to host a French student, many of them the same families who had a great time with our Japanese students last year. Your hospitality ensures we can continue to offer these wonderful cultural experiences for our students. A group of Nowra High School students will be returning to visit Aix-en-Provence in January 2016. Have a great week!
