Connect to VCL - AppleThe first time you log in, install the Citrix Receiver client (once only). Part II shows how to open a virtual desktop (Part II, pg. 3). Part III how to open a single application (Part III, pg. 5).

Part I. Install the Citrix Receiver (first-time users)

Check the I agree with the Citrix license agreement box.

Click the Install button. The Confirm installation is complete dialog box opens as well as the open/save box for the CitrixReceiverWeb.dmg file.

Open a browser and navigate to http://vcl.ecu.edu. Click the Login button (right). The gateway opens.

Log in with your PirateID and passphrase.

Click Save.

Allow the CitrixReceiverWeb.dmg file to completely download. Do not click the Continue button until the client is installed.

Click Continue twice on the Introduction screen. Click Agree to the terms and conditions and then follow the prompts for all screens. Click Install.

Double-click the CitrixReceiverWeb.dmg file now to open the Install/Uninstall box.

Double-click Install Citrix Receiver to begin the installation.

When prompted, enter your Apple computer username and password to allow the install.

Click Install Software.

Part II. Open a Virtual Desktop

IMPORTANT!

When the installation is complete, you are given the option to add account.

Leave this box unchecked and click Continue.

The Summary dialog box lets you know the install is complete.

Click Close.

After you click Close (see above), log in using your Pirate ID and passphrase (same login as email).

The Desktop screen shows the virtual desktops for which you have access. Virtual desktops are applications requested by an instructor for a specific course. Enrolled students are allowed access to complete course work. One virtual desktop can include one or more applications.

Click an icon to open its desktop. The Starting desktop… message appears, and the Citrix Viewer desktop icon appears in your dock. This opening process may take 1-3 minutes depending on the speed of your network connection. .

The favorites screen opens. Note that there are three (3) tabs at the top of the screen, Favorites (the default screen), Desktops and Apps.

Part III. Use a Virtual ApplicationVirtual Applications are single programs launched individually as if they were loaded on your own desktop. Click the Apps tab on the main desktop page to access these programs.

The desktop loads with icons for all the applications on the desktop as well as additional programs from the Start menu.

When finished using the software, it is important to LOG OFF the virtual desktop through the Start button.

The virtual desktop closes and returns to the Citrix page.

If you are ready to quit the VCL, click the drop-down arrow beside your name (top of the screen) and click LOG OFF.

Click an application to launch.

Close an application by clicking the “X” icon (upper right of the screen). You are returned to the Apps desktop.

Be sure to log off the VCL by clicking your name (upper right) and choose LOG OFF.

To save the application as a Favorite, click Details and then Add to Favorites.

The Starting application dialog box opens, and you see the icon for Citrix Viewer in your dock. After a brief pause (depending on the speed of your network), the application launches.
