Central Service Technicians are a key part of the health care team, working with
supplies and equipment needed in surgery and other patient care areas. The
responsibilities of central service professionals include preventing infections by
cleaning, decontaminating, assembling, sterilizing, and packaging all instruments

Our Medical Assisting program trains you for entry-level positions in a variety of
professional patient care management settings, including administrative and clinical
work, insurance, and transcription. Students also learn how to manage facilities and
personnel and respond to emergencies.
aDministrativeThe administrative concentration covers a wide range of administrative duties within the medical
assisting field.
clinicalThe clinical concentration focuses on work in a patient care setting.
electrocarDiography (eKg)This concentration prepares students to administer diagnostic EKG testing, which checks for
problems with the electrical activity of the heart. In this field, you’ll be part of a team that helps
patients who may be at risk of a heart attack or other life-threatening conditions.
generalistThe generalist concentration covers a wide range of generalized skills within the medical

therapeutic massageStudents in the Therapeutic Massage concentration study the skeletal,
cardiovascular, lymphatic, respiratory, and muscular systems along with
different styles, techniques, and viewpoints of massage. You’ll also learn
the physiological effects of circulatory massage and the proper care and
use of equipment and supplies. Successful completion of your studies
will prepare you for certification through the Committee on Massage

Does the idea of being an emergency first-responder make your heart beat a little
faster? Are you an emergency medical technician who wants to get to the next level
of emergency care and improve your employability? Then our Paramedic Science
program may be for you. Through clinical and practical instruction as well as a field
internship, you’ll be prepared to work in emergency medicine in the pre-hospital
setting. Upon completion, you’ll qualify for state certification as an emergency
medical technician or paramedic. Already a certified paramedic? Take just seven
general education courses, and you’ll earn an associate degree that transfers to a
four-year degree program.

As research continues to change the face of modern medicine, increasingly
sophisticated tests allow for more accurate and rapid diagnoses. Medical Laboratory
Technology (MLT) has become a technologically complex field requiring specific
knowledge and skills. The MLT program at Ivy Tech Community College will train
you to be proficient in the duties required in a clinical laboratory and prepare you
theoretically and technically for the procedures you will be performing.
Ivy Tech’s Physical Therapist Assistant concentration prepares you to work with
patients under the supervision of a physical therapist. You will learn to administer
therapeutic and psychosocial support for individuals with musculoskeletal,
neurological, cardiopulmonary, vascular, or other physiological dysfunctions.

Ivy Tech’s Radiation Therapy program gives you the opportunity to enjoy a career
with significant patient interaction in a professional health care setting. Students
learn both in the classroom and through clinical practice at our partnering medical
centers and oncology clinics throughout Indiana.

Students in this program learn to work side by side with physicians, nurses and
other health care providers in caring for patients with breathing disorders.
Respiratory therapists assess, evaluate, and treat a wide range of patients,
including those who have chronic lung problems such as asthma or emphysema.
Therapists also work with the health care team to manage life support. Other
responsibilities include interviewing patients, making recommendations to
physicians to change therapy based on assessments, and providing patient and
family education about lung disease.
raDiologic technology
Radiologic technologists are part of the health care team that works with physicians
to diagnose patients for disease, fractures, or other irregularities. Professionals in this
field are skilled in the art and science of radiography and can apply scientific
knowledge, use problem-solving techniques, and operate high-tech equipment while
providing quality patient care. Technologists work in a variety of health care settings,
including hospitals, clinics, and physicians’ offices.

The Associate of Science in Nursing program is designed to accommodate those

to a four-year institution.

The Therapeutic Massage program addresses both theory and hands-on techniques.
You’ll learn assessment procedures, relaxation massage, therapeutic massage, deep
tissue massage, sports massage, hydrotherapies, and applications for special
populations including pregnant women, children, geriatrics, and the disabled.
The program presents an introduction to acupressure and an overview of energy
systems. Psychological and emotional issues, legal and ethical aspects, and
business development also are addressed. The program is designed to prepare
you for entry into the massage profession, with an emphasis on working within
the wellness community.

Students in this program learn about surgical instruments and sterilization

types of Degrees offereD at ivy tech community collegeAt Ivy Tech, you can earn a variety of two-year degrees as well as one-year technical certificates. Before you enroll, check with your local campus to see what types of degrees or certificate programs are available in your area of study. An admissions counselor can help you choose an option that matches your career aspirations.
The associate of applieD science (aas) Degree prepares students for a career.
The associate of arts (aa) Degree prepares students to transfer to a four-year college or university. The curriculum is almost entirely made up of general education and liberal arts courses.
The associate of fine arts (afa) Degree prepares students for transfer to a related program at a four-year school or a career in the fine arts.
Two kinds of associate of science (as) Degree programs are available: programs for technical/professional fields and for liberal arts. AS programs in technical and professional areas prepare students to start their career or to transfer to four-year institutions. AS liberal arts programs prepare students for transfer to four-year colleges or universities.
The certificate can be completed in fewer credit hours than other types of academic programs. Certificate programs prepare students to sit for a certification exam in a short amount of time, and are offered in fields most likely to lead to employment or promotion.
The technical certificate (tc) is a one-year program that provides education in conceptual and technical skills for specific occupations.
