The IWSC results, announced in London this week gave the Shiraz a coveted 1 st prize ahead of such established wines such as Wolf Blass Platinum Label and Penfold’s RWT. To mark a complete sweep Ainsworth & Snelson’s 3 other wines were also given medals in their respective categories. Also, in the newly published 2007 James Halliday Wine Companion, Ainsworth & Snelson received a 93/100 for both it’s 2005 Clare Valley Riesling and it’s 2004 Yarra Valley Chardonnay. The 2003 Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon was rated at 90, while the 2003 Barossa Valley Shiraz received 88. This means that 7 out of our 8 wines made to date have been rated by Halliday as 4.5 Star Wines. According to Halliday 4.5 stars means “Highly recommended. Wines of great quality, style and character worthy of a place in any cellar’. Winemaker Brett Snelson said “To be honest we are somewhat humbled by this news. To be awarded such honours ahead of such exalted company is just amazing. It means that we are doing what we set out to do – produce great wines at accessible prices, wines that showcase Australia’s unique terroir”.
