Cail, Grace 1961 Dalwallinu Shire. Came to Jibbering from Victoria with her 4 sons when she was 59 years of age. They farmed virgin soil. Was a member of CWA until her death 1961 aged 91 years.

28 October 1944 Wife of Henry Cain, married 7 March 1888. Born at her parents farm “Mountain Springs” in Ferguson district. Married in original church. Rode their horses to their home “Brookview”, Brookhampton (Dardanup). Reared 12 children - 10 sons and 2 daughters.

Cairns, Jane Henderson Narembeen. Came to East Hill 1912, pioneer of district.

Calder, Margaret Gnowangerup. Wife of John, pioneer of Needilup 1914.

Caldow, Matilda Gnowangerup. Wife of John. Opened first Café.

Camfield, Anne (nee Breeze) As orphan came out to Rev. Mitchell as Governess to their children in 1830s. Married Henry Camfield 19 December 1840. Her Husband became Government Resident Albany 1848. When he died she returned to England.

Cammilleri, Kate Bayliss (nee Layman)

1867 1946 Born Wonnerup House. Married 1895 F.W.P. Cammilleri. Died Busselton. Before her marriage, managed Wonnerup Dairy.

Campbell, Alice (nee Adams) Early pioneer of Koorda district 1910.

Campbell, Charlotte Amelia Perenjori district. Came as bride to Bowgada district 1916 and was one of 1st women to live in district. Suffered usual hardships of pioneer and realea 7 children – was reputed to be wonderful cook and homemaker at present living and 80 years of age (1965/6.

Carr, Francis (nee Warbrooks) 1880 1969 Came to W.A. from Ireland early 1900. Married 1920 George Carr and pioneered virgin land known as “Prospect” at Mt Barker.

Carrie, Minnie (nee Wilson) 1882 1965 Perthshire, Scotland. Arrived Perth and married William L. Carrie 1913. Took up virgin land at Pingrup 1911. Had 4 children. One of 5 original settlers at Pingrup and faced many hardships. Returned 1947 to live at Emus Point, Albany.

Carroll, Annie Jane Tammin district. Went farming 1910 on virgin lane. During her life helped with delivery of children and cases of sickness.

Chapman, Mrs Clara Louise Donnybrook Shire. Pioneered virgin country at Lowden 1925-6, lived in bark hut, no roads or bridges, only had draft horses and dray. Taught children by correspondence. Member of Noggerup CWA.

Chapman, Ethel Travelled from Norseman by horse and cart 72 miles to Dowak, Salmon Gums, March 1925. Having a little nursing knowledge helped with the birth of many babies, only doctor being 75 miles away.

Born at Middle Swan, married in York aged 16, had 16 children. Northam resident.

Chugg, Miss A.I. (Queenie) Foundation member W.A. Branch Penguin Club 1945, pioneered establishment of W.A. branch. Member of Soroptomists Club, Tree Society, National Trust and many others.

30 March 1912 Arrived Albany “Marathon” 12 June 1920. Attended East Denmark School 1922-6. Married 1937, still lives on farm pioneered by Church family.

Clarke, Annie Arrived in Kalgoorlie-Coolgardie from Victoria with 3 children, March 1897, to join her husband. After suffering hard conditions, her health suffered and that of her 18 months old child. They came to reside in Perth.

Clarke, Annie Kirkham 1877 1965 Born Adelaide. Died Perth. Nursing pioneer of Royal Perth Hospital. Received 1st certificate1899.

1849 1934 Born and died Toodyay. Married Barnard Clarkson (son of Michael) 1867 and went to manage “Oakabella” Champion Bay. Returned to Mt Anderson, Toodyay, 1873.

1813 1905 Married Michael Clarkson 1833. Arrived W.A. with parents on Parmelia 1829. Went to Wilberforce, York, and later to Toodyay where she lived for the rest of her life, mostly at Mt Anderson.

Clifton, Christina (nee Martin) At 19 years became engaged in 1840 to Robert William Clifton. Left England on Parkfield in December for Leschenault Inlet, arriving March 1841. Had 11 children and suffered many hardships and floods and lack of supples.

Coles, Margaret Arrived Norseman from N.S.W. 1874. Married there 1897 in a tent, which sewed as a church. 8 children in family. Later left Norseman and took up land at Esperance. Died there aged 82 years.

Cross, Mary Annie (nee Dixon) Came to Australia as member of 1st Devon and Cornwall Group 113 Parryville, Denmark, W.A. Reared family of 6 daughters and had life of hardship and worry.

Crowd, Sarah May (nee Gardiner)

1st white woman to settle in their section of West Bridgetown on Blackwood River. Tracked with natives – flour and sugar for palm wood to make mattresses. Had 9 children. All stores had to be brought from Bunbury by bullock wagon. Farm later known as “Hazeldale”.

1812 1893 Lived at Bayswater Hotel, Bayswater. Holder of 1st motor licence issued to a woman, no 208.

Crowther, Eileen Pioneered CWA Branch 1959, as President and also Treasurer for 3 years before family left district. Among 1st settlers on South Stirling War Service Land Settlement. Pioneers of South Stirling.
