EIGHTH GRADE CLASS NIGHT A HUGE SUCCESS!

Eighth grade students danced the night away at last weekend’s Class Night. The event began with a slide-show presentation that showcased pictures (provided by parents) of the Class of 2024 throughout their elementary and middle school years. We are so proud of this amazing group of kids! Thank you to Mrs. Segalla, Mrs. Delaney and to all the parents and FBMS staff who helped make the event so special for the students. Here are some photos from the event.

Eighth Grade Science Symposium

On Monday, our 8th graders took part in their annual Climate Change Science Symposium. Students began the day listening to the keynote presentation “Marshfield, Past and Present” delivered by Mr. Greg Guimond, Marshfield’s Town Planner. Massachusetts State Representative Jim Cantwell also joined in on the presentation and day’s events. After the keynote presentation, students rotated through the following hands-on activities, taking place throughout the building: “Planning for Resiliency,” “Measuring Our Waste & Carbon Footprint,” “Surfside Township Mapping,” and “Sea Level Rise Simulation.” The day ended with a student caucus, which required all students to think about all they had learned that day and apply it to a real-life climate situation. In addition to having Mr. Guimond and Representative Cantwell as guests, students also worked with visiting scientists and professors from local organizations and universities. It was an incredible learning experience! A special thank you to Mr. Boudreau and Mr. Baldwin for all of their efforts in organizing this wonderful event for our students!

HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR JANET APPLEFIELD SPEAKS TO EIGHTH GRADERS

Our social studies curriculum in grade 8 dictates that students learn and study World War II, and this unit typically occurs at the end of the year when students are reading The Diary of a Young Girl: Anne Frank in English. To further develop the overall WWII learning experience, the Parent Teacher Organization sponsors a Holocaust Speaker to come and present to our students. Once again we were fortunate to have Janet Applefield, Holocaust Survivor, join us. She provided students with her riveting story of how she escaped death when she was a young Jewish girl in Poland. Mrs. Applefield’s visit brings history to life for our students and teaches them the importance of tolerance in our society. We thank the PTO for funding this each year!

6th grade parents, please remember to send in a copy of your child's most recent physical dated on or after Sept 1, 2016. Your child may bring it to the Nurse's Office, you can fax or mail it, or you may email it to me at [email protected]. All physicals must be received by the first day of school in September. According to MA state regulations, your 6th grade child must be fully immunized before he or she enters 7th grade.

If your child has medication in the Clinic, please plan to pick it up by the end of the school day on Monday, June 19th. Only parents will be allowed to pick up prescription medication (not including EpiPens and inhalers). We cannot
