• Planning Places with People in Mind examines the way individuals experience (perceive, construe, evaluate, and use) their surroundings as well as socio-cultural variables in relation to the physical environment, and the use of that information for physical planning.

• Research and analytic methods for urban design and planning covers quantitative and qualitative social science research methods.

• Realizing the Plan (neighborhood) is an urban design service learning studio centering on a district or neighborhood. In it, students prepare a detailed physical development plan and implementation program.

• Planning Dissertations from Start to Finish leads students through the PhD process, publications, and professional life as a faculty member.

• Workshop in Creating Great Places Use covers user-oriented environmental programming and evaluation methods and has students conduct a post-occupancy evaluation for a real client.
