the State of Oregon, is a voluntary member of th~ Oregon PublicEmployes Retirement System. He ~as been a ~ember since July l,1973." He is vested in this Joint contributory pension systemwith~employe contributions made by him through Jangary l, 1979,totalling $15,727.60.

As a. result of his service membership and-accumulatedemploye and employer contributions, upon termination of hisemployment, he would be entitled to draw benefits as early asage 55 (March 1984). At age 60~(normal retlremeot age) hisentitlement tO a monthly award would be approximately~765.00a month for life, Were he t6 withdraw his employe contributionsat termination no further benefits would accrue to him or hissurvivors.

It should be. understood that none of the assets of thistrust (p~esently amounting to 1 billion 700 million dollars -including a stock portfolio valued at over 600 million dollarsand consisting of ownership shares in over 280 active Americanand foreign corporations) - none of these assets are pledged or~eachable by any single participating employer or employe.

Under ORS 237.271 the retirement fund.ls declared to be atrust. It has no other purpose but to fund and thereby providethe benefits owing to vested/participating members. No personalproprietary interest can be held or created therein by reasonof employe or employer membership or contribution.
