Mahatma Gandhi

Known for the practice of non-violence, Mahatma Gandhi lived his life with the goal of achieving peace and justice. He was a Hindu but often stated that the essence of true religion was in the teaching of Jesus Christ, in particular his “Law of Love.”

He led the struggle for India’s independence which they won in 1947. Native Indians were working against unfair working conditions, extreme poverty, religious and ethnic enmity and other forms of op-pression.

Gandhi died on Jan 30, 1948.

Quotes: “Be the change that you want to see in the world.”

“An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind.”

ANOINTING OF THE SICK PRESENTATION with the SACRAMENT to follow Date: Saturday, February 6, 2016 10am – 12pm St. Joseph of Cupertino Parish - Community Center 10110 N. De Anza Blvd, Cupertino 95014 Speaker: Msgr. Joseph Milani Sponsored by St. Joseph’s and Catholic Cemeteries Diocese of San Jose The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is one of the seven sacraments baptized Catholics seek in recovery of body, mind and spirit. There still may be a misunderstanding that this Sac-rament is solely for those on their death bed, however it may be given to those who are impaired due to sickness, injury, or old age, those undergoing surgery, and those with physical or emo-tional problems. The Sacrament offers strength, peace and cour-age to endure with grace the sufferings of illness, as well as restoration of health according to God’s will. Discover why not to wait until the last minute to call a priest. All are welcome.

Know the Signs & Report Human Trafficking

In these weeks and days leading up to the Super Bowl, a spotlight is being focused on Human Trafficking. However, the reality of human trafficking existed in our diocese and the wider Bay Area before we were chosen as a host city and will continue to exist in our county after the excitement of the Super Bowl has faded and disappeared. Califor-nia has one of the highest numbers for reports on cases or victims of human trafficking in the country. As Catholics, we recognized the dignity and infinite worth of each and every human being. We are called to act when faced with injustice.

Please help end human trafficking in our cities. Learn the Red Flags of human trafficking as well as ways you can help stop this evil at www.notraffickahead.org. To join the Catholic Network to End Hu-man Trafficking email Christine Vincent at [email protected].
