Recent Professional Activities and Service

Interdisciplinary education: My teaching interests involve long-term, interdisciplinary curriculum development. I estab-lished and taught several special topics classes: polymer science, chemistry of solids, organic molecular conductors, advanced materials, and nanomaterials. I also make sustained contributions to the freshman chemistry program. Here, introduction of new technology to the classroom and instructional labs is a high priority. I have been a research mentorfor 20 undergraduates and 3 high school students.

Diversity: In addition to promoting opportunities for women in the physical sciences (≥40% female group members over 25years), efforts have been made to support people of color including two African American males, an African Americanfemale, a Hispanic female, a native American male, and a handicapped female.

National lab interaction: I have active research collaborations at BNL, LBNL, the NHMFL, and ORNL. I serve onthe ALS (LBNL) and NSLS II (BNL) proposal review panels, review dc and pulsed field proposals for the NHMFL,and chaired the National Users Committee at the NHMFL from 2010 - 2012 and was a member of the external advisorycommittee during that time. I recently rejoined the NHMFL User Committee with a term from 2019 - 2022.
