    • W. G. Boyd, father of Ray J. Boyd, died. He wasn't from Arvada, but

    was a pioneer settler in the Big Thompson Canyon - 1873. His father and an uncle created Boyd Lakes near Loveland. In 1879, he trailed cattle from Wyoming and Montana to New Mexico during a drouth. For a number of years, he was editor of papers in Grand Junction & Loveland. (Interesting - huh,

    Town of Arvada purchased a new street sweeper for the paved streets of town. "There have been many hours of service trying to get the machine to do its stuff." Mounted on front of one of the trucks.

    Arvada horseshoe courts will open April 2 at Mcllvoy Park. E. J. Molby,

    Pat's tire shop moved to 145 Wadsworth. No new innovations - "too derned busy taking care of customers."

    Lee Beghtol returns to Arvada Restaurant, reopens cafe at 115 East

    Arvada s-'ommunity Organization Committee met, 8 present. Secretary to

    write letter to Town Board asking that traffic laws be enforced and that en-trances leading into Arvada be improved. Also write a letter to The Monitor opposing the weekly nuisance of papers being thrown into front yards. Loud-speakers at ball park are too loud and the news boys on the tennis courts on

    Sunday mornings is also disturbing.

    Farmers Feed & Supply are going to move into the building recently vacated

In the fall, he will receive Deaconship, and in June of nest year, the priesthood.

    New Safeway store opened - "What intrigues me most is those push cart baskets. I imagine boys working there are supposed to wheel you around - • wouldn't you? The new store is a darby; it has everything in refrigerated cases and all that stort of stuff." Bill Shepherd is new manager. "It looks to me like our Safeway has tackled a big problem courageously, and if they can't make it, won't that be a swell basketball court?"

Emory O'Connell was Mayor Pro-tem, but had to resign because he moved to a new house on So. Wadsworth. Thomas Vanderhoof elected new Pro-tem, and Bruce Evans named to fill occupancy of O'Connell.

    Arvada business men arranged Hallowe'en Fun for the town's children, a big bonfire, rides, etc.

    Fred Tiller died November 7th. Moved to Arvada in 1914. Born in Red- ruth, England, Central City in 1898 and married Sarah Stephens in C.C. in 1901. Established Tiller Coal Ed Feed business. Interment, Arvada Cemetery.

    Robert Mellor of Avalon Station was struck on the head by a and

    killed in a mine at Central City .

    Beet dump had a very successful season. George Swadley shipped the greatest amount of beets and E„ E. Sleyster shipped the beets with the highest

    sugar content, averaged 21.7% sugar. 313 acres of beets were harvested in the Arvada community. Joe Connor was supervisor of the dump which opened

    October 9.

    Arvada Community Organization Committee met and proposed a special

    meeting for Monday, November 20th, for purpose of making preliminary plans

    for the proposed Community House.

    Big plans for $50,000 Community House - hoping WPA funds would cover

    Fanny Roberts, mother of Percy, died. Born in Cornwall, England and came to Arvada in 1906. Hit by a car, died of a bloodclot.

    Town sent out questionnaire with water bill regarding whether people favored a uniformed cop for stricter traffic enforcement. Would raise mill levy. $1,900 a year salary.

    Electric Company moved to new location on Wadsworth to a building designed by Newt Olson Lumber.

    About 1,000 people attended the grand opening of the Arvada Electric Co.'s new office.

    Mollvoy Park sought as site for community building. Beginning this year, the annual Xmas event will be &eld at the park instead of at the corner of Grand View

    I and Wadsworth. The Arvada Garden Club will sponsor a planting in Mcllvoy of a blue spruce to be used as a permanent Christmas tree for the Arvada Com-munity. Tree was donated by Tollesson Nurseries and will be moved by Charles Wilmore of the Green Bower Nursery.

    Fire Dept warned motorists who follow the trucks to a fire not to drive too closely because sometimes the trucks stop suddenly and the tailgaters crash into them.

    John J. Weaver died. Settled in Arvada 50 years ago, 1889. Born in La Bette County near Burlingame, Ks, in 1868. Survived by wife, Anna;

    daughter, Hattie Beub and son, Thomas. Buried Arvada Cemetery.

    Agnes Schoech (Mrs Joseph) died. Resident of Arvada since 1906. Sur-vived by 2 daughters, Mrs Coralin Zehender and Mrs Glen Shaklee.

    E. M. Harris moved to Arvada from Nebraska 27 years ago, 1912, and was engaged in raising livestock on a farm in the Ralston Community until he moved to 332 W. Grand View a few years ago.

    • Dr Foster was honored by being made a life honorary member of the state and regional Medical Association, as well as award of honor membership in the County and State Orders of the American Medical Assn in honor of the 50th year of his service. He started practice of medicine in June 1890, and has been in Arvada since 1908.

    Capt Mark Rhoads announced installation of a refrigerated locker system • to be available as rapidly as it can be made up. There will be 480 lockers available in the new building next to the Electric Company.

    Blizzard hits Arvada area. Much damage to phone and power lines.

    The County Commissioners bought steel to build a new bridge over ditch near Ralston Church. The bridge will be straightened from its former angle and will be 26 feet, 8 inches by 30 feet, a single span and will cost $596. Monety is to come from Arvada's 3% gas tax.

    March 21

    Not so (re new bridge) says Commissioner James G. Biggins, Jr. All of Arvada's gas tax money went to correct the reverse curve on the paved road to Denver.

    Hi Brown died suddenly. Born in Denver in 1874 and moved to Arvada 60 years ago. Lived on Graves Ave until he moved to h ome on Ralston. He was/OOF - 23 years as treasurer, a member of Golden Masonic Lodge and Clear Creek Valley Grange, 2 years as postmaster of Arvada, 1932 to 1933.

    "Anna Juchem, 73, owner and operator of the famous Juchem Ranch at Juchem Station, died Thursday night at her home after only a few hours' illness. She was born on the Ranch, which was homesteaded by her parents and became onf of the famous pioneer ranches of this County. She and sister,

    Lena, operated ranch after death of parents. Lena Putman died three months to the day before her. Both were also stricken while in Grange Hall on Wads-worth.

    John A. Gorcich dies, 84, a retired brick contractor who served on both

    the School Board and the Town Board for 10 years. Lived in Arvada 29 years. Secregary to Masonic Lodge 26 years.

    The Old Hackberry Tree, a containing the story of the origin of the Arvada Garden Club, as a result of the cutting down of the hackberry tree. The record of the founding, a quarterly with a picture of the tree and a copy of the dedication service has been placed beneath the stone, which says - The Children's Christmas Tree - to the memory of Dr Richard Russell, Arvada's first mayor, at McIlvoy Park.

    Jeffco Unit of Colo National Guard to be enlarged under Defense Act. allotted 12 more men - 168th Field Artillery. It will be converted to a regiment of 155 millimeter guns and field rifles and diesel tractors are to be standard equip-ment. It will be inducted into Federal Service in January and sent to Tennessee for a year's training. Men of draft age may volunteer to enlist in this organi-

    Frank Churches of Broomfield killed when truck hit by C E S passenger train near Semper. Son of Henry Church and lived on Church's Ranch since his birth 78 years ago.

    Janet Chinn killed in coast auto wreck, covered by icy roads. She was not injured but died of heart failure and shocid. She'd been a resident of Arvada 20 years and taught in the Arvada schools for 15 years.

    • Florence Sharp died. Moved to Arvada as bride of Clarence Sharp in

    December of 1896. Engaged in turkey raising for 30 years.
