January-February 2014

.…”Should old acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind…Should old acquaintance be forgot, and days of auld lang syne”......

How many times have we sung this on New Year’s Eve, amidst the traditional noisemakers and champagne, and if you’re lucky enough, a midnight kiss?

.…”For auld lang syne, my dear, for auld lang syne, we’ll take a cup o’ kindness yet, for auld lang syne”….

But do you know what the words mean? According to Scotland.org, the song references the love and kindness that we’ve experienced in the “good old days,” while also giving us a sense of union and belonging to bring with us into the future. I can’t think of any sentiment that more closely matches how we feel at Robert Renzoni Vineyards as we enter 2014.

2013 saw us celebrate our fifth anniversary in Temecula, and break ground for our beautiful new Tasting Villa, situated at the peak of our vineyard. When completed this spring, our Vino Famiglia will be able to comfortably enjoy our wines along with the breathtaking views of the valley below and the mountains that rise in the distance. Along the journey to this point we have been blessed to know many friends here in the valley and across this great land. We

have been blessed with an incredible team here at Robert Renzoni Vineyards who give of themselves each and every day. Having traveled through his hometown of Fano, Italy this past summer, I also have a renewed appreciation for all that my grandfather Domenic and his family did to bring us to this point. How I wish he could be here to help us welcome all of you to our new winery.

.…”And here’s a hand my trusty friend! And give us a hand o’ thine! We’ll take a cup o’ kindness yet, for auld lang syne”….

And so it is with that collective love and kindness from the ”days of auld lang syne,” as well as those more recent, that

we enter 2014 full of excitement and anticipation. The bountiful

harvests of the last few years will yield several wines we hope you will enjoy. The incredible construction crews that have toiled for months will take their leave soon, and leave behind our new home to which we will bid you welcome.

.…”For auld lang syne, my dear, for auld lang syne, we’ll take a cup o’ kindness yet, for auld lang syne”….Like my grandfather and his father before him, it is my honor to wish you “Felice Anno Nuovo.”

Brunos Budino al Caramello

Caramel Custard - In a bowl, stir together the cream and milk. In a separate metal bowl or double-boiler insert, whisk together the egg, egg yolks and cornstarch. In a heavy-bottomed pan, combine the water, sugar and salt, and cook over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until amber in color (careful not to burn), 2 to 3 minutes. Add the cream and milk mixture, and gently simmer for 5 to 7 minutes. Temper the eggs: Slowly whisk the cream mixture into the eggs to form a custard base. Place the egg base over pan of simmering water (double boiler) and gently cook until the mixture is thickened and coats the back of a spoon (it should have a warm pudding consistency), 6 to 8 minutes. Whisk in the butter, liqueur and honey. Strain the mixture and pour into 8 glasses. Chill, uncovered, until the custard is set, at least 4 hours.

Chocolate Ganache & Budino al Caramello - Bring the cream to a boil and pour over the chopped chocolate, stirring occasionally until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is smooth. Set aside to cool. Before serving, pour a layer (about 2 to 3 tablespoons, you may not use all of the ganache) over each set caramel budino, and top with a dollop of whipped cream and a sprinkling of chopped hazelnuts.

Dear Vino Famiglia member;

Happy New Year! 2014 is upon us and already moving at full speed. As I was putting away the holiday decorations, I couldn’t help but think to myself…wasn’t I just putting these up? I know it sounds cliché, but I keep saying “where does the time go” and I’m sure many of you can relate. I think I’ll ponder that over a glass of my favorite Renzoni wine!

For those of you who are new to our Vino Famiglia wine club, we welcome you. For those of you who have been with us for many years, we thank you for your continued support and loyalty. We know you have many choices and we appreciate the fact that you chose us. As we move forward into the New Year, you will see many, many changes at the winery. We all anxiously anticipate the grand opening of our new Villa sometime in the 2nd quarter. There just aren’t enough words to describe how fantastic this place will be, but a few things you can expect are a beautiful new tasting lounge, a members only “Vino Famiglia” lounge that includes a fireplace and private patio area, outdoor seating for relaxing and listening to music all while taking in breath taking views and fabulous sunsets. Did I mention that great wines will be available too?

For all of you, here are some quick reminders to help you enjoy your membership to the fullest…

Keep your information up to date. It’s very important to update your credit card information, address (especially if you are a UPS customer) and email. We communicate solely by email so if you aren’t receiving any emails from us, chances are we don’t have your correct email on file.

If you are a Pick Up customer, please remember to pick up your wines within a month of their release. As you know, our space is small and storage is limited. If you find it tough to get to us, you might want to consider switching to UPS delivery. You can also authorize a friend or family member to pick up your wines for you…just email me with their name. Or, you can give me a call and I can ship what’s here. In 2014, we will begin to ship wines to members who have not picked up their releases within 30 days, which means extra shipping charges to you. Note your calendars with the release dates and plan a day every other month to come visit, relax and pick up your wines.

We now offer a twice a year shipping club. For those of you that travel a lot, live in hot areas or can’t get in to pick up your wines every other month, this is the ideal club for you! A total of six bottles are billed and shipped in March and October each year. If you would like to switch your membership to this new club or need more information, please contact me for details.

Did you know that all billing, shipping and pick up dates are listed on our website? We also list our Sunday music line up so you can visit when your favorite musician is playing. In addition, helpful Q & A’s for wine club members will answer most of your questions. Go to www.robertrenzonivineyards.com and select the Wine Club tab for all the latest news.

Last, but not least, if you are planning a visit please remember that we close at 6 PM daily. If you want to enjoy tastings or a glass of wine, you should arrive no later than 5:30 PM. We want to provide you with excellent service so give yourself plenty of time to enjoy your wine tasting experience!

As always, should you have any questions or need assistance with any aspect of your membership, please call or email me.

All of us here are looking forward to another great year of seeing old friends and meeting new ones. We raise our glasses and wish you a 2014 full of good health, prosperity and much happiness!

Alla Famiglia,
