Living dangerously on an outdated version of JD Edwards?

If you are not running EnterpriseOne 9.1 or higher, you are delayed in the functionality and technology advancements of the product.  

Oracle continues to provide strong support for JD Edwards product suite through product enhancements and new release announcements. However, Oracle encourages customers to migrate to the newer supported releases as it discontinues supporting older releases which many customers currently to use.

Oracle announces extensions of Premier Support periods for the latest

releases of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne and World. For JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.2, Premier Support is now effective through October

2025 and Extended Support through October 2028. For JD Edwards World A9.4, Premier Support is effective through April 2022 and

Extended Support through April 2025."

EnterpriseOne 9.2 and World A9.4 Continuous Delivery   

Oracle has extended its support for JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.2 until

October 2028 and JD Edwards customers will be able to adopt new

capabilities with Premier Support. For JD Edwards World A9.4, Premier

Support is effective through April 2022 and Extended Support through April

2025.

Risks of using a product that is no longer supported

Restricts your ability to upgrade your core technology infrastructure. Your

older version of JD Edwards will likely not be supported by Oracle on aging

infrastructure. Support from Oracle is necessary for regulatory compliance, bug

fixes and support of newer infrastructure platforms.

Outdated software cannot support updated system components. By not

upgrading, support is unavailable for new operating systems, database

technologies and Internet browsers.

Inability to use newer third party solutions. Updated third party software and

other solutions are potentially impossible to use, putting other systems at

operational risk. Third Party providers such as Windows 7 and SQL Server

2008 are supported only when you are on the latest version of JD Edwards.

New security threats. When ERP systems are not upgraded, valuable IP and

data may be compromised, lost or stolen.

Regulatory issues. Old releases may not satisfy constantly evolving country or

regional localizations for tax and regulatory requirement.

Increasing costs. Running an unsupported JDE system can end up costing

your company more money in the long run than it would to just upgrade to a

more recent version. Customizations need to be maintained and upgrades at

later dates are significantly more difficult and costly.

Competitive disadvantage. On old releases, customers cannot leverage

enterprise data and systems in conjunction with rapidly evolving technology.

They also do not deliver the enterprise-wide cost reductions or productivity

improvements.

Lack of mobility affects both the customer experience and internal culture.

Working with old systems may also be viewed as a career limiting factor at a

dated company.

Miss out on all of the new functionality and technology being developed. Old releases do not incorporate thousands of enhancements and

cannot use new modules designed for later releases.

Who is Upgrading? 

JD Edwards is still the solution of choice for manufacturing- based companies. EnterpriseOne adoption continues to expand, while World’s usage is decreasing rapidly. 70% of companies are using cloud in some way, but low numbers for Oracle Cloud adoption. 89% of JD Edwards customers are still very uncertain about their cloud strategy for the next 2-3 years. 24% of JD Edwards customers implemented a form of Internet of Things (IoT) technology.

According to the 2017 JD Edwards Technology Survey developed by Surety Systems, the majority of EnterpriseOne users have upgraded to “the 9s” as a result of a culture shift toward being code current. As for World users, while 9.3 gained traction quickly after its release in 2012, 9.4 has had a slower start.

JD Edwards E1 customers have followed Oracle’s ‘code current’ objectives with close to 70% of the customer base on 9.1 or 9.2. E1 is still growing and the number of customers upgrading to 9.2 year over year continues to climb. More than half of E1 customers have a future upgrade planned in the next 12- 18 months.

EnterpriseOne Version 9.2 Highlights

JD Edwards EnterpriseOne version 9.2 is addressing the demands

of the digital economy with the new Simplified Upgrade process and

deep-industry specific capabilities that enable SMART change

(Strategic, Mobile, and Real Time).

The initiative behind 9.2 is usability. JD Edwards recognizes that no

two employees are alike and designed the new version with user-

friendly navigation to improve productivity.

Compared to JD Edwards 9.1, the 9.2 user interface features a

simpler and cleaner look, as well as easy drag-and-drop adjustment

to design customized navigation. Users can modify their view of grid

information and choose where to place their favorite reports and

applications. Menu breadcrumbs allow quick access to applications

that have recently been run.

OrchestratorAllows customers to collect, filter, analyze, and act on real- time data as it is being transmitted by IoT devices. Eliminate costly manual processes by reacting to—or avoiding— business disruptions in real time, and by analyzing historical data for continuous process improvement.

Open-Systems Platform9.2 provides customers a choice of deployment options such as on-premise or hybrid deployment, private cloud

and public clouds.

Advanced Job ForecastingDelivers improved capabilities for project managers to capture and audit expected materials and resources remaining on a project (including cost and pay forecast). User-defined calculations will help them in defining multiple “what-if” scenarios to compare with actual factors.  

Mobile ApplicationsWith the needs of specific industries in mind,

Oracle has expanded its JDE mobile enterprise applications portfolio to include more than 85 out-of-the-box mobile apps. These flexible and

easy-to-deploy applications are designed to make working in the field easier and are both

iOS and Android compatible.

User-Defined Objects

Includes Grid Formats, Queries, One View Reports, One View Watchlists, EnterpriseOne Pages and the Composite Application Framework. These do not require IT resources for creation, deployment and management. Users can now enhance their own user experience leveraging the new standardized process for User Defined Objects management.   

Outbound Inventory ManagementProvides a complete Vendor Managed Inventory

(VMI)/Consignment lifecycle: agreements, ordering,shipments, invoicing and replenishments. Businesses

providing these services for their customers will be ableto leverage these functionalities in order to optimize

processes and performance, build customer loyalty andimprove profitability.

Recognition of Revenue9.2 customers will have the choice to adopt the new FASB/IASB standard in matter of Recognition of Revenue at their pace, up to one year earlier than the actual mandatory effective date (December 15, 2017 for public companies, December 15, 2018 for non-public companies).

Application DevelopmentFramework 

JD Edwards leverages the Oracle Application Development Framework (ADF) to create an

intuitive interface while leveraging all existing business rules via the Application Interface

Services (AIS) server.  

Robust Security Authentication  

With Tools Release 9.2, JD Edwards has removed the 10-character restriction for user ID and password to support more robust security authentication processes. Security officers can define complex password rules that align with their security and compliance requirements.
