Purpose of the New Role:To provide administrative support for the NIHR (HSDR) funded project ‘Factors influencing the utilisation of free-standing and alongside midwifery units in England: A Mixed Methods Research Study’, including the setting up of the Project, its ongoing activity and conclusion.The role holder will work closely with the Principal Investigator (Dr Denis Walsh), Co-Investigator (Profession Helen Spiby) and the two Research Fellows appointed to the Project.

Main Responsibilities % time per year

1. Assist in the initiation of the Project by providing administrative support in order to facilitate the accurate and timely organisation of preliminary meetings with the research team, the Advisory group and patient public involvement (PPI) and for the ongoing 3 stages of the research (mapping of midwifery units, undertaking 6 case studies, stakeholder event. This includes working closely with the Principal Investigator to oversee the monitoring of all project expenditure and ensuring effective financial and administrative systems that are in line with University policy and regulations and raise any required purchase orders, process invoices and expense claims made against the research code.

2. Prepare meeting papers to a high standard and keep accurate minutes.Organise meetings, travel arrangements, refreshments as required. This will involve room and catering bookings, producing and disseminating posters, putting details on the website and other media and disseminating details to various audiences.Hold responsibility for the project’s webpage and twitter feed.

3. Develop and maintain communication links for the core research team, co-investigators, advisory group, patient public involvement & stakeholders involved in the project.

4. Monitor and maintain records of publications and other research-related outputs and activity related to the project in order to meet School, University and HEFCE requirements. Contribute to development of interim and final reports and research outputs.

5. Support training (e.g. for service users) and seminar eventsMaintain personal development.Any other duties as required by the post.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience

Essential DesirableQualifications/ Education

Either NVQ 2-3, City & Guild or equivalent, plus experience in a relevant role(s).

Other relevant further/higher/vocational/ qualifications.

Skills/Training Expert in Microsoft Outlook and Word.Proficient in software packages (ie. Excel, Access, PowerPoint).Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate with health service staff , academics, collaborators, stakeholders and general publicProven planning and organisational skills.

Knowledge of University Business Systems, (ie. Agresso).Knowledge of using pFACT or other costing software.Conversant with or willing to be trained in the use of ENDNOTE.Good understanding of University policies and procedures.

Experience Significant experience in a relevant administrative role.Experience of managing a diverse workload, and switching between tasks and concepts quickly and easily.Experience of financial monitoring.Ability to produce high-quality work and to tight timescales.Experience of producing long documents to a high standardAbility to prioritise workload.Ability to work independently and use initiative, as well as being an excellent team player.Minuting complex meetings to a high standard.

Experience of supporting projects/research , preferably within the higher education sector.
