DON’T FORGET! The men have breakfast meetings on Friday, June 14, and Friday, July 12 at 7:00am. There will be a brief meeting and a short devotional along with great food prepared by Ken Jack-son.

DeSiard Street Mission

Our UMM cooked and served around 135 servings of food to the people at the DeSiard Street Mission on Thursday, May 16. Won’t you help in June and July? Join us on Thursday, June 20 & Thursday, July 18!

Outlaw: What does it mean to live outside the law? Paul wrote a letter to the church in Rome asking the same question. His answer was sur-prising and freeing. Take a few hours out of your schedule this summer to be part of this study on the letter to Romans. Chad is teaching it in 4 sec-tions across the summer.

What does it mean to "do" evangelism in our world? The Great Commission in Mat-thew tells the church to go into the world and tell of this good news. While this is something we should all affirm, it is something we rarely do with intention. Evan-gelism isn't the job of a few, but the responsibility of all who call Jesus Lord.

Join New Song in worship this June as they ask the hard questions about evangel-ism and think about what a 21st century version of evangelism might look like. The answers will surprise you!

REMINDER: The UMW Reading Program runs from July 1 through June 30. Our unit’s report is due in to the dis-trict Program Resource Secretary by July 15. If you have read any books and/or any issues of response or World Outlook, regardless of whether you have completed one of the Reading Plans, during this time frame, please re-port it to Martha Jordan by July 5 to allow time for the compilation of our figures and completing the report form in a timely manner. You still have a month to read for this year’s program and there are many books from which to choose in the church library. Anything you read after June 30 will be counted toward next year’s program.

Dear Friends,

Please remember to turn in your member information update form as soon as you are able.

We are trying diligently to update our records and make them as accurate as possible. Your cooperation is paramount to our success. We need information on all members: new and established. So that means you. If you haven’t turned in an information form...please do so soon. Thank you so much for your help and participation.

The United Methodist Church has begun “Bless the Children” initiative, which encour-ages all UM local churches to engage in ministries to enhance the lives of children. These ministries may take the form of after-school care and tutoring programs, provid-ing school supplies, and other child-advocacy projects to assist the children in our churches’ communities and the world. Each congregation in the Louisiana Conference is asked to commit to sharing in the “Bless the Children” initiative by making a financial and ministry commitment for the coming year (2013-2014) at the Annual Conference Session this June.

St. Paul’s already provides Day Care and After School Tutoring for our neighbors in our community. We serve 149 families and their 168 children. Although the waiting list to get children into our programs continues to ex-pand, there still is more that we can do for our neighbors and their children…

The Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana reports that 65% of the 60,000 school age children in our area are enrolled in free and reduced lunch programs. The Food Bank’s Backpack for Kids Program “allows children to bring home

nutritious food when other resources are not available, such as on the weekends or during school vacations. Backpacks are filled by volunteers with child-friendly, non-perishable, and vitamin fortified food. The back-packs are then discreetly distributed to the at-risk children at a local school.” The Food Bank is currently serving 355 children in seven schools in two parishes this school year through the Backpack Program which is

authorized by the nationally renowned program Feeding America (www.fbnela.org).

Jill Mouk, Director of Educational Ministries, has already interested the children and youth of St. Paul’s and has set up opportunities for them to help with this ministry by volunteering at the Food Bank and by collecting offer-ings at Vacation Bible School and Sunday School this summer. Since our Mission Committee already supports the Food Bank in other ways, it is my hope that others of us will join them in a year-long commitment to bless the children of our neighborhood with financial support and by lending a hand at the Food Bank.

Peace, my friends… Tim

End-of-Year Celebration for Music Maker Choir and Bible 101

St. Paul’s graduating seniors were honored during the

New Song Worship service on Sunday, April 28 and

then treated to lunch in the Fellowship Area. The sen-

iors and their families enjoyed a great meal and an in-

spiring talk from Ben Nicholson who has served as

their youth director through Jr. High and High School.

Pictured here are the seniors who attended the lunch.

The children who attend Music Maker Choir and Bible 101 were given a special treat on Wednesday, May 1. The group traveled on the church bus with Jill Mouk and treated to an ice cream cone at the Creamery. We would like to thank Angie Nicholson and Karen Bennett for teaching the Music Maker choir this year. These classes will begin again in late August.

The next Mission trip is scheduled for

August 28th - September 1st. Mark your calendars and

sign up to be a part of this wonderful Mission opportunity.

Have you ever felt God nudging you to do something but didn’t know how to respond? On my first Mexico mission I wondered how God would use a short, 60 something school teacher to accomplish anything in Mexico! I found out that God had his own plans for me and the other team members from all walks of life. Since that first mission, I have been amazed at what our teams have been able to accomplish and how God reveals our gifts and allows us to use them to His glory.

If you feel God nudging you, consider joining us on the next mission, August 28 – September 1. Find out how God can use your gifts!

Contact Kathy Wells 387-0168.

VITAMINS NEEDED! Vitamins are always needed for our Mexico medical team. All types: adult, children’s, prenatal,

etc. are needed. You can drop them off in the container near the church office.
