While press breaks can handle some applications, partsfrom 20 to 40 feet can become a nightmare to handle and bend with any precision. Rollformers may be fast, but they certainly lack flexibility when it comes to creating long parts or complex pieces withslight differences in profile. “C” Clamp Frames: Pure ProductivityEven as the highly accurate, hydraulically driven CClamps hold a work-piece firmly in position for eachfold, they will not mar the most delicate work surfaces likea ram and v-die can. The new open-frame design createsgreater versatility. A groundbreaking, new upper beamdelivers significant free space, enabling the production ofparts that were impossible in the past.

A radius nose on the upper clamping jaw presents anotherhuge advantage of the system because it is ideal for bend-ing grade E hard materials without cracking them.

When material thickness changes, the upper jaw on the CClamp is automatically moved by the CNC 2000 Controlto keep it true to the center of the bend and to adjust for various bend radii. With the CNC 400 control, this is a manual operation. No time is wasted in set-up,changeover or parts proofing, creating maximum production. • Maximum open height of 7.87" (200 mm).

Integrated Backgauge and Sheet Support:Maximum FlexibilityThe JORNS machine has a combination sheet supportand backgauging system that holds and manipulates yourwork piece during the entire folding sequence.

Automated finger stops do most of the labor, positioningthe work piece for each bend. And, the sheet supportshold the piece, so the operator doesn't have to.• A unique finger stop and backgauge transport

mechanism, allows simple repositioning of all the finger units anywhere on the bending length. This isparticularly ideal when dealing with slit parts that havecamber.

• Repeatable accuracy to within +/- .004" (0.1 mm) isachieved thanks to a high-tech servo electric drive,using the latest drive-belt technology.

• The two-stage backstop system covers 40" of automaticgauging in less than two seconds. A special 50" systemis also available.

• The electrical bus duct running the length of the system, offers power at any point and automaticallyactivates the two-stage backstop fingers.

• The backgauge eliminates the need for prick punchingand multiple handlings, not only saving time, but alsodramatically improving quality.

• The optional independent finger-stop creates taperedsections.

Folding Beam: Powerful HydraulicsThe hydraulically driven folding beam, replaces the pressbrake’s ram and v-die. Its unique and highly powerfulhydraulic linkages are placed at precise intervals all alongthe folding bed, depending on machine capacity.Whether straight or radius bends, the folding system creates precise action with uniform force, and absoluterepeatability. The exact and coordinated movement of thefolding beam and work piece produces scratch-free bending, which is critical for coated materials. It alsocompensates for spring-back. JORNS Mini Service CenterToday the same qualities that catapulted JORNS long metal folding systems into the number one worldwide leadershipposition are being applied to a revolutionary cutting system. It breaks the cost barriers that have prevented smaller metalcomponent manufacturers and roofing manufactures from competing with the big boys.

There’s nothing new about cutting lines that can take a 48-inch wide coil slit to various widths, chop part of the coil fortrim and rewind the rest to run it through a rollforming machine. But, machines capable of doing that cost $300,000and more. The JORNS Mini Service Center changes all that. Priced well below traditional cutting systems, it allows evensmall companies to process steel like a regular service center.

Clearly, the Mini Service Center solves the technical problem of the complex rewinding application that requires anenormous amount of power to keep a coil tight and straight as it’s being rewound. It has enormous flexibility to slit-to-width, cut-to-length and recoil – either all at once or each process separately.

The Mini Service Center has solved the issues of price and reliability. It’s a low-cost system, but technically sufficient todeliver a superior job.

A Major BreakthroughAlong with its affordable price, The JORNS Mini Service Center is an extremely clever and technologically advancedsystem, based on two major components: the slit-and-cutting line and the recoiling line. Both lines can be purchasedtogether, or the recoiler can be added to an existing line.

Another significant advantage is its compact size. The whole system can be run in an extraordinarily small area – abouthalf the space of a traditional line.

The machine is designed to process 48-inch coils and up to 18-gauge steel, with the possibility of five cuts in 18 gauge.Strength and power also are key attributes of the newMini Service Center. With a maximum line speed of100 feet per minute, the rewinder uses an impressive17.5-horsepower motor for extremely tight tensioncontrol.

Equipped with standard CNC Batch control, the slitting and cut-to-length system is an all-electricdesign with large four-inch arbors to resist deflectioneven at maximum capacity.

Blade Setting, Changeover & Cutting Made EasyBlade setting and blade changeover are extremely easy toaccomplish. The machine automatically goes to thebolt/screw position for knife setting, while the knives aremoved along a scaled arbor and set in the right positionwith the simple turn of a hex bolt.

To add or change knives out for sharpening requires theremoval of only four bolts at the end of the system. A special tool holds the arbor in place while the shearblades are moved, making knife change-out extremely fast– about 15 minutes.

The all-electric shear is designed guillotine style, capableof cutting up to 35 cuts per minute. It has a capacity of 14gauge mild steel.

The knife design is a unique 3600 clamping style thathelps eliminate wobble burrs when cutting. When cuttingblanks and recoiling simultaneously, the recoil bands arefed underneath the shear, while bands to be cut are fedthrough the shear. A special roller device underneath theshear eliminates any possible scratching of the materialbeing recoiled – even at full speed.

The Operative Word: FlexibilityFlexibility and accommodation are demonstratedthroughout the Swiss engineered and designed JORNSMini Service Center.

The decoiler is a 13,000-pound, drag-style decoiler thatcomes in two varieties: a breech-stand or an open-framedesign, which is easier to operate when an overhead craneis not available.

The recoiler can be placed virtually any distance from theslit and cut-to-length machine. The most common distance is 20 feet for capturing trim on a table whenrecoiling simultaneously. Built on a common stand withthe tension brake, the recoiler is driven by a powerful17.5-horsepower electric motor. The recoiler can bebuilt with a bridge stand or an open frame design to facilitate easier unloading. Many options are available onthe system, including an over-arm separator for betterrecoiling and easier unloading.

Another option is a five-roll straightening unit with threedriven shafts and two upper shafts that are easilyadjustable for taking out coil set when processing trimblanks.

Accuracy and flexibility in speed controls are key components of the design. The cutting system and recoiler have independent speed controls, which ensuresa perfect speed setting for rewinding. An optional dancerarm also is available to automatically adjust the speed ofthe recoiler to the feed speed of the line. The mandrel isequipped with a station for pinching the feed end of thecoil and holding it tight during the recoiling process.

The eight foot height of the tension stand replaces a floorpit and provides loop control support. The tension standis equipped with five separator disks and delivers tensionvia a felt brake with pneumatic control to provide extrahigh tension. In addition, the felt brake assures the metalis processed without scratching.
