course, we made pinhole cameras, and photographystuck. Joined by a filmmaker named Sarah, we dedicatedthe second half of our course to digital and filmphotography. Our students come from urban poor communitiesaround Bangkok, places not typically known for beauty.Yet as we photographed every crevice and walked downeach alley, it was a pleasure to discover the beauty ofthese communities through the eyes of our students. Seeing Rightly!
Trevor Davies, Johannesburg
At the beginning of this year we have been in SouthAfrica with Servant Partners for 5 years... and to behonest it is often tough to see clearly what we haveaccomplished. It is much easier to see what we have notaccomplished, to compare and critique.
Our work by nature is grassroots, working to empowerthose who want and can imagine change themselves. This has proven to be slow and discouraging at times, and hard to see the fruit. We have been tempted byhopelessness and despair.
Thankfully God uses all things for good and He has beenteaching us to see rightly....to see God rightly, to see thework rightly and to see ourselves rightly....God is good,he is at work and he is using us!
We have started to see more clearly fruit of our presencehere....of allowing God to work in and through us.

Internship inVancouver, BritishColumbia. Thisinternship has aspecial focus on preparing and recruiting people to servelong-term in India, and Mallory's reflections are from atrip she and the other interns took last fall.
The train heaves a long sigh as it enters the Dum DumCantoment station. As I exhale slowly in response, myteammate Ricki and I exchange a smile - one thatexpresses both bridled fear and determined hope. Ourteam has been living in a flat nearby for about a week, readjusting to life as a community in India. With alanguage notebook and a water bottle in hand, we arenow headed into a slum to pursue language and culturewith strangers. Adorned in vibrant floral patterns anddesigns, the women around us strategically positionthemselves around the door as others shove their wayout onto the platform. Ricki and I immediately followsuit and elbow our way through a competitiveconglomerate of salwars, sarees and purses to squeezeinto the last sliver of space available. Curiousexpressions catch my eye, offering their sympathies inraised eyebrows and wrinkled smiles to two foreignerswho clearly lack experience in Indian transportation. Thetrain musters up the energy to hail its departure andsoon a combination of markets and slums rush by tocreate an impressionist piece of vermillion, indigo, turquoise, and gold.

May your eyes and ears be blessed to see and hear thework of God in our midst!
