In October Judospace were pleased to welcome mem-bers of the All-Japan Judo
Federation.

tion.
The AJJF are looking to improve their coaching set up and discussed with the Judospace team the experi-ences they have gained while educating coaches
internationally.

August 2013 saw Rio de Janeiro, Brazil accommo-date the 8th International Judo Research Symposium. Judospace and the Inter-national Judo Federation provided help and sup-port in the organisation of the symposium. 17 academic papers from 40 different researchers were selected for partici-pation in the symposium

This year Judospace an-nounced its partnership with Koka Kids. The company is led by 1993 World Cham-pion Nicola Fairbrother and provides a range of quality resources for judo coaches, including their popular
magazine.
The collaboration will de-velop a special range of innovative educationally based coaching resources, based on the theme of
‘Teaching Judo to Children’.

Judospace Expands
2013 has brought some new faces to the Judospace
team.
In June Mr Darren Warner joined as Technical Advisor to the company, in particu-lar he will supporting face to face delivery with coach-es. In September Miss Lau-ren Jackson joined as Com-munications Assistant. Lau-ren’s role is to help the com-pany communicate more

Medical Advisor.

Level 4 This year has seen both the Easter and Summer residential coaching blocks hosted by Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge. Thanks to Dr Sheila Pank-hurst, Bob Challis, Natasha Collins and the staff at Anglia Ruskin University for their on-going support with the course. Level 3 The course itself has ex-panded with inclusion of a new module: Basics of Sports Medicine. This will be tutored and assessed by Dr Nikos Malliarpolous (5th dan) a doctor from the University of Aristotle in Thessaloniki, Greece. Judospace have broad-ened their geographical reach and have devel-oped working relationships with the Icelandic and South African Judo Associ-ations to deliver the EJU Advanced Coach Award. Following an invitation from South Africa Judo
President Temba Hlasho, a Memorandum of Understand-ing was signed between Ju-dospace and Judo South Afri-ca. With the mission; “To build a system to gener-ate future educated judo leaders, who can deliver judo for development and performance, based on sound technical principles, for the wider benefit of judo in South Africa.” A successful residential block was delivered in Reykjavik, Iceland in June this year. Ice-land Federation President Johann Masson was the first to complete the course. Our thanks to Bjarni Fridriksson for the wonderful hospitality.

tee Federations Forum on the
topic of Violence in Sport.
He taught a class of sports
management students at the
University of Tsukuba, a gen-
eration who will benefit from
the legacy of the Tokyo
2020 Olympic Games.
Finally was the Solidarity of
International Judo Education
14th Annual Lecture, hosted
by Mr Yasuhiro Yamashita
which addressed the prob-
lems of judo injuries to chil-
dren in Japan.
The aim of the lectures was
to raise awareness and ad-
vise on possible strategies,
policies and coach education
solutions that could be imple-
mented to help tackle such
issues.
In November Dr Callan visit-
ed Tokyo, to present 4 lec-
tures addressing the eradi-
cation of bullying and injuries
in sport and judo in Japan.
The visit was hosted by the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs
and he was accompanied by
Professor Michel Brousse.
At the All-Japan Judo Feder-
ation Dr Callan lectured
about the occurrence of bul-
lying by Japanese coaching

Eradication of violence in sport, Tokyo
During September, Miss Janine Johnson, Executive Assistant at Judospace, visited Japan. Miss Johnson spent time train-ing at Tsukuba University and the Kodokan Judo Institute. Whilst there Miss Johnson met Professor Takeshi Nakajima, former Treasurer of the International Association of Judo Researchers, based at Kokushikan University. Professor Nakajima and his colleague, former World Judo Champion Yasuhiko Moriwaki welcomed the group with a day trip out to climb Mount Fuji!
