The Foundation students have had a fabulous first term and have settled into school well. This week teachers have been using their professional leave days, which is part of the latest enterprise agreement, to visit classrooms and observe teaching practice and plan in their year level teams for next term. This will not only improve the teaching practice of all the teachers but will also lead to improved teaching and learning outcomes for all students. The Chomp and Chew was a resounding success. Thank you to Naden De Luca and her team of helpers including Bronwyn Milner, Andrew Palich, Leanne Renehan, Tiffany Podrug, Cathy DIntini, Selena Adeosun and Michelle Kiumarsi. The Year 6 students were also excellent workers adding to the success of the day. There are new procedures required by the Department of Education for student absences. Parents are required to contact the school via Compass on the day of the absence to outline the reason for the absence. If we have not heard before 11.00 am teachers are required to contact parents. Letters, generated by Compass, will be sent home today asking for unexplained absences to be acknowledged. This can be completed via the letter or directly on Compass. Thank you for your help in this area. Kris Pepper will be taking long service leave in Term 2. We all wish Kris a lovely break. Mai Ling Wong will take Krisclass during this time. Dear Parents and Guardians

Term 1 is almost over and Easter upon us! The time seems to be flying.

Thank you to Naden De Luca and her team of helpers including Bronwyn Milner, Andrew Palich, Leanne Renehan, Tiffany Podrug, Cathy D’Intini, Selena Adeosun and Michelle Kiumarsi.

Mai Ling Wong will take Kris’ class during this time.

Congratulations to Jess Mahoney and her fiancé, Jake Bullen with their wedding on Saturday April 7. I’m sure this will be a happy occasion!

I wish everyone a happy and safe holiday and look forward to returning to a productive Term 2!

Kind regards

Julie

Any school day a student is absent and it has not been recorded by the

parent/carer on COMPASS, the school will follow up by calling the parent/carer.

The internet and social media provide great opportunities for us to network and stay in touch online. While these technologies can offer a positive space for sharing information and ideas, they also have the potential to cause harm to individuals, groups or even whole communities.

Just as you would discourage your child from acting inappropriately online, it’s important to remember that sometimes, negative comments posted about a school community by parents or caregivers can have a bigger impact than expected. Reputations of staff, schools and even parents can be damaged.

Whenever you’re online, you are potentially speaking to an unlimited audience, even if you think your conversations are private. Taking a few moments to think about the content you post could save upset, embarrassment - and even possible legal action or police involvement.

Parental and community feedback is important for schools. If you have a concern, complaint or enquiry about an issue at school, the best approach is to speak directly to us, rather than discussing it in a public forum. If you are worried about online content involving the school community, contact the principal.

If you are posting online, remember that your comments help build and support the school community. Make sure you’re honest, respectful, considerate - and a good role model for your children.

PE AND SPORTS REPORT

CROSS COUNTRY

Our annual school house cross country will be held on the

first week back in Term 2 on Friday, 20 April at Ruffey Lake

Park. All children in Years 3-6 are expected to participate as it

is part of the physical education and sports program of Donburn.

Further information will be placed on Compass by the end of

the week.

We require parents to assist by being checkpoint officials to

ensure the safety of the children. If you are able to help out, please let me,

your child’s class teacher or the office staff know as soon as possible.

SUMMER SPORT

All Year 5 & 6 students played

in the Doncaster District Summer Sport competition over two round robin days.

The children enjoyed learning how to play as a team in their chosen sport and

displayed good sportsmanship during the competition. A huge thank you to

Roxi Shafiq-Antonacci for managing one of the boys softball teams. The boys

cricket and girls basketball teams were District Champions and will compete in

the Manningham Division early in Term 4.

SWIMMING

Well done to Bridget H (Year 5) who all competed in the

Manningham Eastern Metropolitan Region Swimming Carnival

last term at the Aquanation in Ringwood. Bridget achieved her

personal best time in backstroke.

Tyler L (Year 4) was also due to compete in the breaststroke but

unfortunately was ill on the day.

Both children should be extremely proud of their outstanding achievements!

Thomas achieved his personal best times in both his freestyle and butterfly

events and Bridget earned a bronze medal in her breaststroke multiclass

event. Congratulations Thomas and Bridget for your magnificent

performances!

Anna Papamichael - PE and Sports Teacher

Hello Donburn Families.

Term 1 is just about over and what a busy term it has been. It has been lovely to get to know the new members who have joined P & F this year and are so enthusiastic in ensuring our children will experience some fun events through the year.

Our Easter Themed Chomp ‘n’ Chew was a great success and a big thanks goes out to Naden and her team of helpers. Look out for Chomp ‘n’ Chew later in Term 2.

The Loose Change Challenge is well under way so keep collecting that loose change over the break for your chance to help win your class a movie and ice cream.

The Early Bird purchasing of the Entertainment Book has also begun so please take a moment to consider purchasing the App or Book, with a percentage of proceeds from the sales coming to our school. Thousands of discounts available from food, to holidays, to entertainment. A sample of what is on offer is available at the school office.

We will be holding our first Spring Party Committee meeting early in Term 2, so if you are interested in assisting in any capacity, please do let us know.

Wishing you all a safe and happy break and see you in Term 2.

Regards,

Michelle Chryssafis

SPORTS FOR SCHOOLS - LAST CHANCE FOR VOUCHERS TO BE

DROPPED OFF AT SCHOOL TOMORROW

Entertainment Books have arrived!

If you want to purchase a book, simply go to the office and pay

and collect one on the spot.

Also there is a digital version of the Entertainment Book in the form of an

app you can download on your phone. The benefit of this is that you can

share it across devices in your family, so both parents and children can

have a copy.

If you would like to see how the digital version works, check out

https://www.entertainmentbook.com.au/DigiFAQ

For the minimal cost of $70 you can access savings from hundreds of

businesses across Melbourne and Victoria. Also if you are travelling

interstate you can purchase an interstate copy at half price for 30 days.

We travelled to Tasmania earlier this year and did this and it saved us

heaps in food and entertainment while we travelled.

If you use the book twice it has paid for

itself. There are so many activities in

there to entertain the children during the

school holidays:

AMF Bowling, Strike Bowling,

Timezone Hoyts

Bounce Inc

AFL Lollipops

King Pin Bowling Lego Discovery Centre in Chadstone

Buller Ski Lifts Puffing Billy Melbourne Aquarium Luna Park

Kids Space Phillip Island attractions Clip & Climb

Hedgend Maze … And so many more. Next week lookout for some of the

local restaurants and cafes that are in the book.

Thanks for supporting Donburn.
