PASTOR ’S LET TER • CARTA DEL PADRE

02 July 18, 2021 | 16th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Friends, I pray you had a safe and relaxing July 4th holiday weekend. It was very nice to be able to get together in-person for gatherings of friends and family over the long weekend. While the threat of Coronavirus is still very real, and the Delta variant is a concern, we are slowly returning to some of the pre-pandemic norms. Relaxing COVID restrictions continues to be an active discussion among the parish Pastoral staff. Many of our previous restrictions have already been relaxed; the Baptismal font is now flowing with water, Altar servers have returned, masks and social distancing are optional in certain sections of the Church, gatherings are allowed in-person, and reception of the Eucharist on the tongue is permitted with caution. The staff has been discussing when it is appropriate to bring back some of the other suspended activities such as song books in the pews, Coffee and Donuts after mass and reception of the precious Blood. Please know that we are actively discussing these issues and will keep everyone informed when to expect changes. The overarching principle that is guiding our discussion is to provide safe options for parishioners at highest risk. Most of our youth are unvaccinated and remain at risk. Many adults are choosing not to be vaccinated for various reasons and remain at risk. Even vaccinated persons have some level of risk of becoming sick or transmitting the virus to others. All of these concerns are being considered as we make decisions on the restrictions to maintain. As of right now, masks and social distancing are still required in sections 1 & 2 in the sanctuary. These sections are for individuals or families with children who are more comfortable with a higher level of safety. Please do not sit in sections 1 & 2 without a mask. Masks and social distancing are optional in sections 3-6 in the sanctuary. We have asked all Eucharistic ministers to continue wearing masks for the distribution of Communion for their protection as well as for those receiving. If you desire to receive Communion on the tongue, we ask that you come up for Communion in the aisle between sections 5 & 6, and wait until the end of the line to receive. Distributing Communion on the tongue has the highest level of risk of transmission to the person next in line. We appreciate your continued understanding and cooperation It remains my sincere hope that everyone who is eligible for the vaccine gets vaccinated. The ongoing studies continue to prove that the vaccine is safe and is highly effective in preventing infection and serious illness due to the coronavirus. When more people are vaccinated it reduces the potential risk for everyone. Have a blessed and relaxing summer. Peace, Fr. Chris

Paz y Bien, Padre Chris

PRAYER REQUEST LIST • LISTA PETICION DE ORACION

Jesus said, “Have the people recline.” Now there was a great deal of grass in that place. So the men reclined, about five thousand in number. When they had had their fill, he said to his disciples, “Gather the fragments left over, so that nothing will be wasted.”

- Jn 6, 10. 12

ON CARE FOR OUR COMMON HOME "Human beings frequently seem to see no other meaning in their natural environment than what serves for immediate use and consumption. Every effort to protect and improve our world entails profound changes in lifestyles, model of production and consumption.” Pope Francis, Laudato Si 2015 You may recall from prior columns, the Zero Waste Lifestyle “Five R’s”, or 5 Steps to Zero Waste: 1. Refuse - what we do not need 2. Reduce - what we do need and cannot refuse 3. Reuse - what we consume and cannot refuse or reduce 4. Recycle - what we cannot refuse, reduce or reuse 5. Rot - composting The fourth “R” is Recycling. When people think of actions to reduce climate change and protect the environment, recycling is probably one of the first things that come to mind. Recycling is more common because it is so actionable. It’s tangible and we humans love to see physical, instant progress. Recycling is an important part of the process in protecting the environment, but we should focus on recycling less “stuff” by remembering the first three “R’s” listed above: Refuse, Reduce, and Reuse. If you live within the city limits of Columbus there is curbside recycling and the Bartholomew County Solid Waste Management operates a recycling center at 720 W. Mapleton Street, Tuesday-Saturday 7:30am-4:30pm. If you live in the county, in addition to the main recycling center, there are two convenience sites open on Saturdays 8:00am-3:00pm. Harrison Township site (10293 Old Nashville Road) and the Petersville site (11110 25th Street). Items accepted at all three sites include: · Glass - brown, green, clear bottles & jars only · Cardboard · Paper- all types · Plastic - #1 PETE & #2 HDPE only (number on the bottom) · Metal - all types of cans, foil, etc. · NO #3-7 Plastic, NO styrofoam · Computer & Electronics (Recycling Center only). For more info about items accepted for recycling, please visit the Recycling Center website: www.bcswmd.com

HEALING MASS - THURSDAY, JULY 22 You might think that healing refers only to the physical healing in our lives, but our emotional and spiritual well-being are just as important. This past year has certainly taken its toll on all of us, and we could use God’s healing touch in our lives. A Healing Mass will take place on Thursday, July 22 at 6:00 PM (bilingual). The Anointing of the Sick will be administered during the Mass and prayer teams will be available for individual prayer immediately after the Mass. Could you use some healing in your life? Please join us!

Unete a nosotros!

THANK YOU! Youth Ministry would like to thank you for your generous donations for One Bread One Cup. We were able to attend in-person in June with seven teens from our parish. The teens embraced every part of the retreat from the moment they set foot at St. Meinrad. Fr. Chris and seminarian Khaing Thu both joined us for part of the week. Thank you for making it possible for our teens to experience the beauty of our Catholic faith, which enriches the lives of each teen and the life of the Catholic Church. Just listen to what a few of the teens had to say about their experience! Thanks for the opportunity to grow in my faith! It was a fun experience. ~Lyndsey F.
