From our Pastor…

Last weekend, I attended my ninth Steubenville Conference with over 100 Columbus youth and adults. We traveled to Springfield, IL, and stayed on the Missouri State University campus. With almost 2,000 of our best

friends, we learned more about our God who is in love with us and how we can respond in love to him. We heard talks from dynamic speakers, praised God in song with an awesome band, and celebrated Mass each day in grand style. Fr. Michael Schmitz, Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries for the Diocese of Duluth, MN, who is better known for his presence on YouTube, really captivated the audience. I imagine this is how people reacted to Jesus when he came into their midst. THE highlight of the weekend was Saturday night's Eucharistic Adoration experience, where we were able to BEHOLD Jesus close up, as Fr. Schmitz processed throughout the entire arena with the monstrance. This allowed us to BE HELD by our Lord, and rest in his love for each one of us, despite our sins and weaknesses. Abundant opportunities for the Sacrament of Reconciliation throughout the weekend gave us a chance to express our sorrow for our sins that Jesus willingly took to the cross for our sake. This sorrow is hopeful, in that we recognized our inability to respond whole-heartedly to the Lord, but at the same time, trust in his abiding love for us. As we traveled home, we joyfully shared our experiences with others. Please pray for all of us, as we live this new life in Christ with renewed or changed hearts. Pray that we may never slide back into our former ways of living half-heartedly or existing without a relationship with Jesus.

May God be praised!

MUSIC MINISTRY Psalm 100 tells us: Shout joyfully to the Lord, all you lands; serve the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful song. St. Augus-tine is often attributed with the saying, to sing is

to pray twice. Music lifts our hearts and helps us engage more fully as we use multiple senses - sight, speech and sound. Come, dip your toes in the water! Join a choir or pull together a small group, play an instrument, participate in Praise & Worship, or-ganize rehearsals, and help us grow music ministry. We need volunteers who are willing to make this happen! Call Dianne at 402-564-7151 or email [email protected]

A BIBLICAL WALK THROUGH THE MASS

The Mass is nothing short of amazing. Through it, we encounter God in the most intimate way possible as we hear him speak to us in the Liturgy of the Word and as we receive him Body and Blood, Soul and Di-vinity in the Holy Eucharist. Participants in this study will come to know and understand the Mass like never before. They will see,

perhaps for the first time, why they say what they say, and do what they do every week at Mass. The words and gestures will be seen in a new light, leading them to a richer, more fruitful wor-ship experience. Tim Cumberland and Belinda Keiter will lead this five-week study which will include a new and updated video presentation A Biblical Walk Through the Mass, which explores the roots of the words and gestures we experience at Mass and explains their pro-found significance. This fascinating tour of the Mass will renew your faith and deepen your love for and devotion to the Holy Eu-charist. Please join us for A Biblical Walk Through the Mass beginning Tuesday, August 3 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. and continuing every Tuesday for five weeks in St. Bon’s Parish Center. For more in-formation or to register for the study, call Belinda Keiter @ St. Bon’s, 402-5647151 or or via email: [email protected].
