4 PM MASS RETURNING AUGUST 8th

The Saturday evening vigil Mass at Church of the Presentation will resume on August 8th. Because the seating capacity there with social distancing regulations is much larger than that of Saint Anthony Church, parishioners preferring an afternoon vigil Mass are encouraged to consider that option. However, reservations will be necessary to ensure everyone can be accommodated. Masks need to be worn and anyone with preexisting conditions is cautioned to come at their own risk since the pandemic continues. That is why the obligation to attend continues to be suspended by Bishop Tobin.

2021 TRIP TO HOLYLAND DEPOSIT DEADLIINE EXTENDED TO SEPTEMBER 1ST

Plans are moving ahead with Col-lette, an international tour compa-ny based in Rhode Island, hosts a special pilgrimage to the Holy Land next year from February 3 - 11 for Father Ed, parishioners and friends. The itinerary will include visits to the major areas in Israel where Jesus lived and conducted his public ministry cul-minating in His death and resurrection in Jerusalem. There will be Mass celebrated throughout the tour in spe-cial churches of historic significance. The itinerary is very comprehensive, including most meals, and allows for some time for optional activities such as a visit to the Dead Sea. But everyone will visit the Jordan River baptis-mal site, enjoy a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee, visit the Mount of Olives, and see the famous Western wall of the ancient temple of Jerusalem, along with other highlights. Color brochures are now available. Please RSVP to Gilda Delmonico at 232-2251, Camille Roberti at 353-1638 or Father Ed at 353-3120.

BLOOD DRIVE

There will be a Blood Drive at the Knights of Columbus - Lincoln, located at 171 Jenckes Hill Road in Lincoln, on Monday, August 3rd from 4 PM - 7 PM. Donations by appointment only. Please visit www.ribc.org/drives to schedule an appointment.

PETER’S PENCE COLLECTION

The Peter’s Pence Collection is taken up worldwide each year to support the most disadvantaged including victims of war, oppression, natural disaster and disease. Parishioners may submit their contributions electroni-cally by visiting www.peterspence.va, by means of the regular offertory envelopes to the parish during Mass or by sending contributions directly to the Diocesan Fiscal Office. Checks should be made payable to the Diocesan Service Corporation and be clearly marked “Peter’s Pence Collection” on the notation line. The mailing address is:

Diocesan Service Corporation

Fiscal Office

1 Cathedral Square

Providence, RI 02903

The Peter’s Pence Collection supports the Pope’s philanthropy by giving the Holy Father the means to provide emergency assistance to those in need because of natural disaster, war, oppression and disease.

PATIENCE DURING THE PANDEMIC

Complaints have been received because of violations to social distancing at Saint Anthony Church. Unfortunately, zeal to give everyone a seat at Mass has trumped safety concerns on occasion with some parishioners put at risk when seated too close to others who are not related. Patience is required on the part of everyone during these times. Early arrival is necessary for those making a reservation since it is impossible to regulate those who come without first calling ahead. Of course, no one is obliged to take a seat where one does not feel safe. We sincerely apologize to anyone who has been offended.

2020 HOLIDAY BAZAAR RAFFLE

This year, because of the ongoing pandemic, the Holiday Bazaar which normally takes place during the second weekend of November will probably not be held this fall in the manner in which it has been accustomed. But there will be the annual grand raffle which in the past has offered over $2,000 In all cash prizes. The proceeds of the raffle will defray religious education expenses as they do every year.

We are currently accepting donations for the Grand Raffle Ticket Prizes which will be mailed to all Saint Anthony and Presentation parishioners when the goal is reached. Donors names will be listed on the ticket. If you are able to contribute a cash prize of $50, $100 etc. please contact the Fr. Ed at the rectory office 353-3120 or Maryann Pallotta 353-5215. Checks should be made payable to Saint Anthony Church and may be mailed to the rectory at 5 Gibbs Street, North Providence, RI 02904. Note on the memo line Bazaar Prize and please include a phone number where you may be reached.

Your generosity is deeply appreciated as parish income has significantly decreased because of the pandemic which has curtailed Mass attendance.

RESPECT FOR LIFE COMMITTEE

Married love differs from any other love in the world. By its nature, the love of husband and wife is so complete, so ordered to a lifetime of communion with God and each other, that it is open to creating a new human being they will love and care for together. That power to cre-ate a new life with God is at the heart of what spouses share with each other.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES There are several opportunities available within our parishes for volunteering on a regular basis. If you would like to become involved or would like more information, please fill out the information below, place the coupon in the weekend collection basket, and a representative from the ministry will contact you. SAINT EDWARD FOOD AND WELLNESS CENTER UPDATE

We would like to update you about what is happening at the Saint Edward Food and Wellness Center. Our long-standing practice of “friendly choice” food selection has been discontinued and we now distribute pre-packed bags of groceries, bread, frozen food and produce outside, to minimize risk. Social distancing and mask-wearing are being strictly followed. Approximately 150 families are being served each Wednesday from 10 AM to noon and from 5 to 6 PM. Since this “new” way of serving our guests seems to require fewer volunteers, at this point we are at capacity. We continue to limit volunteers to those who are under 80 years old and to those who have no underlying health conditions. Again, the goal is to minimize risk to everyone. We can only accept donations of non-perishable food items (these can be brought to mass), no clothing, coats, comforters etc. We hope this gives you the assurance that the good work that you have supported for so long at the Food Center continues even during a pandemic.

ST EDWARD FAMILY FEAST 2020 FINANCIAL REPORT

I’d like to thank the 46 families that generously contributed to our parish feast this year, in the middle of this health crisis. May God bless your generosity and support! We will continue to accept donations to support our St. Edward parish with daily operations and expenses. Donations may be mailed to the church. Please make checks payable to: ST EDWARD CHURCH and write “Family Feast 2020” on the memo line. Fr. Nolasco
