*** June 2018 *** A VIEW FROM THE PULPIT As we approach Father’s Day, my mind goes back, way back, to when I wasn’t one. I grew up as an only child and I’ll have to admit that all the fuss about babies mystified me. Just exactly what could reasonably intelligent and sane people gain from the company of a tiny human who divided his or her time between eating, sleeping, and crying? My outlook really changed when our first, Marc, entered my world. All of a sudden, I couldn’t wait to get home from work to see what the little guy was up to. Both Karen and I would express our amazement at each and every move Marc made in his first few months of life. Amazement aside, Marc’s arrival also brought a fair share of trials and tribulations. When he was about nine months old he began to take his first steps. Boy was I proud, and you know what the Bible says about pride. “Pride goes before a fall” – It was my pride, his fall. I wanted to show off his walking ability to some friends who had come over for supper; so, I put him up on a cedar chest in the bedroom and he did walk right off the end. His one tooth bit into his lip. So off I went on the first of many trips to the emergency room. “You let him do it you can take him to see about it” was Karen’s instructions. After a few days I was trusted to look after Marc again. Karen had gone over to her mother’s, about 10 miles away. I was playing with him in his room when the phone rang. Not having cell phones or even cordless phones I left the room to answer it. I knew he would be alright because we had “baby proofed” the room. Marc didn’t see me though and thought I had left him there all alone and he started to cry no he started to wail. I got back to the doorway and looked in; he was fine, he just couldn’t see me. He didn’t know I was watching him. He really didn’t know everything was all right. I stood there; and it came to me that the same way (but to a far greater degree) God watches me, and all of us every second of the day. The prophet Jeremiah put it this way: “Thine eyes (God’s Eyes) are upon all the sons (and daughters) of men” Jeremiah 32:19. There are times when we may feel lonely or deserted, there are certainly times when we’re afraid. But God is watching whether we realize it or not and ultimately, eternally, everything is going to be just fine. Rev. A VIEW FROM THE PULPIT

As we approach Father’s Day, my mind goes back, way back, to when I wasn’t one. I grew up as an only child and I’ll have to admit that all the fuss about babies mystified me. Just exactly what could reasonably intelligent and sane people gain from the company of a tiny human who divided his or her

time between eating, sleeping, and crying? My outlook really changed when our first,

Marc, entered my world.

I wanted to show off his walking ability to some friends who had come over for supper; so, I put him up on a cedar chest in the bedroom and he did walk – right off the end.

I knew he would be alright because we had “baby

proofed” the room. Marc didn’t see me though and thought I had left him there all alone and he started to cry – no he started to wail.

I got back to the doorway and looked in; he was fine, he just couldn’t see me. He didn’t know I was watching him. He really didn’t know everything was all right.

I stood there; and it came to me that the same way (but to a far greater degree) God watches me, and all of us every second of the day.

The prophet Jeremiah put it this way: “Thine

eyes (God’s Eyes) are upon all the sons (and

daughters) of men” Jeremiah 32:19.

There are times when we may feel lonely or deserted, there are certainly times when we’re afraid. But God is watching whether we realize it or not and ultimately, eternally, everything is going to be just fine.

The Administration Committee reported that Nelson and Brooks have power washed the front of the church for Homecoming. Thank you. It really looks so much better. For the Hales wedding on May 26th, Larry and Ken will open up and Ken will be in charge of sound system. Both the ice machine and awning for Fellowship Hall will cost about $2500 each. BUFFALO WOMEN JOINT

CIRCLE MEETING – MAY 14TH

A wonderful evening was had by all who attended the Joint Circle Meeting, hosted by the Sunshine Circle. The theme of the evening was “Christian Hospitality”. The act of hospitality is a Christian act of love. Those in attendance participated in the Presbyterian Women’s Birthday Offering. A total of $335.00 was collected to help those in need. One place receiving our offerings this year is The Dwelling Place located in two cities of Minnesota (Minneapolis and St. Paul). It was established in 1998, and provides for the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of women and their children following their escape from violent partners. Another place receiving our donations this year is Cottage Village, a tiny-house community for low-income residents in Cottage Grove, Oregon. It will offer a safe and affordable housing opportunity and a safe, structured social community for individuals and families with very low income. And finally, the Village of Grace Center for Physical and Spiritual Health in Honduras will receive our donations this year. It will be managed by Presbyterian Women in Honduras. We pray, as Presbyterian Women, that our gifts by put to good use in order to foster our desire that Christian Hospitality be available for all of God’s children. Buffalo Women will meet again in September. We ask that everyone be thinking about and preparing for our Fall Bazaar which will be held on October 13, 2018.
