Kandinsky Circles

Kindergarten April 20th-May 3rd, 2020(This project will take two art classes)

Look at this painting & talk about it with an adult: What do you see?

Wassily Kandinsky: Color Study. Squares with Concentric Circles

Wassily Kandinsky inspired Concentric circle artWassily Kandinsky used lines, shapes, and

color to create his art. He painted many

concentric circles. Concentric circles are

circles that fit inside of each other and

have the same center point. You will create a

colorful concentric circle artwork inspired

by the artist Wassily Kandinsky!

MATERIALS ● White paper

● Pencil

● Different sized circular objects to trace to make

concentric circles if you want to use a tracer. (coffee

mug, round coaster, lids, etc). This may help to get

started! You can also draw your circles without a tracer.

● Crayons, markers, colored pencil, watercolor paint, or

whatever materials you have to use! I recommend starting

with crayons if you have them at home.

First: Fold the paper in half, side to side, then again, in half, creating 4 separate sections.

Next: Trace your largest circle four times by placing one in each of the four squares, followed by a smaller one, and then another smaller one. See example:

Try to have at least three different size circles for each square. You can challenge yourself to do more if you would like to!

Trace all pencil lines with crayon! Try not to use two of the same color next to each other.

Here is another example using different colors. Please stop here for today! Next week we will complete this project by painting or coloring in the rest with crayon, marker, or colored pencil.

Week Two (4/27-5/3): When painting or coloring, start in the center of your circle and work your way out. Switch colors for each circle! Try to see how many different colors you can use!

Finally, paint or color the square shapes around each circle in your background do your best to try to keep it a square or rectangle by painting or coloring on the folded lines from step one.
