John "ener7 J. (enry ='> 1*The season is upon us now
A time for gifts and giving
And as the year draws to its close

But colors dull and candles dim,
And dark my standing under
O little Zachary, shining light
ou!ve set my soul to dreaming
ou!ve given back my "oy in life
And filled me with new meaning
A #avior $ing was born that day,
A baby "ust like you,
And as the %agi came with gifts,
I come with my gift too
That peace on &arth fills up your time,
That brotherhood surrounds you'That you may know the warmth of love,
And wrap it all around you
It!s "ust a wish, a dream I!m told

Crist!as Dinner
9aul +tookey7 1*$And it came to pass on a Christmas evening
0hile all the doors were shuttered tight
Outside standing, lonely boy1child
Cold and shivering in the night
On the street, every window
#ave but one, was gleaming bright
And to this window walked the boy1child
2eeking in saw, candle light
Through other windows he had looked at turkeys
/ucks and geese, cherry pies
But through this window saw a grey1haired lady
Table bare and tears in her eyes
Into his coat reached the boy1child
$nowing well there was little there3e took from his pocket,
his own Christmas dinner

A bit of cheese, some bread to share
3is outstretched hands
held the food and they trembled
As the door, it opened wide
#aid he, 0ould you share with me Christmas dinner
*ently said she, Come inside
The grey1haired lady brought forth to the table
*lasses two and her last drop of wine
#aid she, 3ere!s a toast to everyone!s Christmas
and especially, yours and mine
And it came to pass on that Christmas evening
0hile all the doors were shuttered tight
That in that town, the happiest Christmas

This day a year ago, he was rolling in the snow0ith a younger brother in his father!s yard

Three thousand miles away,
now he!s working Christmas /ay
%aking double time for the minding of the store
0ell he always said, he!d make it on his own

6ooks like the #ally Ann place after all,
in a crowded sleeping hall
That echoes like a tomb
But it!s warm and clean and free,
and there are worse places to be
At least it means no beating from her /adAnd if she cries because it!s Christmas /ay
#he hopes that it won!t show
(irst Christmas away from home
In the apartment stands a tree,
and it looks so small and bare
7ot like it was meant to be,
*olden angel on the top
It!s not that same old silver star,
you wanted for your own
(irst Christmas away from home
In the morning, they get prayers,
then it!s crafts and tea downstairs
Then another meal back in his little room
3oping maybe that +the boys+
will think to phone before the day is gone
0ell, it!s best they do it soon
0hen the +old girl+ passed away,
he fell apart more every day
&ach had always kept the other pretty well
But the kids all said the nursing home was best
Cause he couldn!t live alone
(irst Christmas away from home
In the common room they!ve got the biggest tree
And it!s huge and cold and lifeless
7ot like it ought to be,
and the lit1up flashing #anta Claus on top
It!s not that same old silver star,
you once made for your own

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that #t' 7icholas soon would be there.
