A NOTE FROM FIJI I'm writing to you this week from Suva, Fiji, where the KAS Yr 11 Service Learning program is in action for the 8th consecutive year. The KAS-Suva Adventist College (SAC) sister-school relationship that has allowed successive cohorts of our senior students to experience service learning in a safe and supportive context is a key feature of our KAS learning program. Thank you to supportive KAS parents and families who understand the value of such experiences for their children and support these unique programs. This year our students will be teaching classes in the junior secon- dary school at SAC, delivering a Week of Worship program, partici- pating in the annual KAS-SAC Concert before an audience of 1500 people, travelling to sunbaked Fijian islands and experiencing tradi- tional Fijian culture, all of which are intentionally planned to ensure that our students return to our community with a greater vision of world needs and their own potential to change other people's lives. An understanding of the value of different cultures learnt through this Fijian experience also helps to prepare our students for the broader cultural exposure that they will experience when travel- ling to Nepal as part of the Yr 12 service learning pro- gram in 2017. Of course, such service learning ex- periences would not be possible without the dedicated effort of our amazing KAS staff who are prepared to travel, be on duty 24/7 and give up their own time off over term breaks to make such programs possi- ble. Best wishes as you plan for the upcoming mid-year school break. I'll look forward to seeing many of you at the From Kindergarten to the World Beyond Kempsey: An evening program with Nick Salmon for KAS parents/carers/school community members on Thursday 21 July. Thank you once again for your support of KAS and for the privilege you extend to us each day to partner with you in the education of your children. KAS STAFFING UPDATE Deputy Principal (Primary) Throughout the 2015 and 2016 school years, KAS has been blessed to have Mrs Jill Pearce leading our primary school. Mrs. Pearce has many skills and talents, one of which is an interest in pursuing post- graduate doctoral studies in the area of social and emotional learn- ing. After much consideration, and with the support of KAS, Mrs. Pearce has decided that at the end of the 2016 school year she would like to step away from her current Deputy Principal position to under- take these doctoral studies. Whilst Mrs. Pearce will be missed in her current role, she will be remaining on staff at KAS in a part time posi- tion which will allow her the opportunity to commence her study program. KAS has now commenced a process of recruitment for a new Deputy Principal for our primary school to commence in 2017. Stage 5 Dean (Secondary) Mr. David Afele, the current KAS Stage 5 Dean will be taking Long Service Leave for Term 3 and a portion of Term 4 following the mid- year break. During this period of leave, Mr. Afele's position will be filled by Mrs. Melissa Metcalfe, the current Head of Department (Creative Arts). To accommodate this temporary change in roles, a new timetable for the secondary school, including several changes to staff teaching loads, has been necessary. Families of students in affected classes will be notified by mail. Yours Sincerely, Rohan Deanshaw KAS Principal

YR 10 FRASER ISLAND TRIP At time of publishing, the Yr 10 group had successfully completed their hike on Fraser Island and were off to spend a night in Hervey Bay before heading down to the Gold Coast to visit Dreamworld. The students have been extremely supportive of each other, being willing to put themselves out to help their classmates. We praise God for the growth and resilience that we have seen in our Yr 10 students.
