Congratulations! In the last few weeks, two future members arrived! Best wishes to:

• Vice President Morgan McGuire and Aby, on the birth of baby boy Zander, and

• Chef Brendan Walker and Kelly, on the birth of baby boy Oliver.

Farewell Amanda After more than seven years helping to run our Office, Amanda Cairns has decided to move on to the role of Accounts Officer with Eyelines. Her last day with us is Wednesday 20 July.

Amanda is universally well regarded for her multi-skilled capability, commitment to the Club and ‘can-do’. In addition to her work in the office, she seamlessly steps behind the bar, has often helped out with additional work and has been a regular volunteer around the Club over the years.

All members are invited to attend Amanda’s farewell drinks and nibbles, commencing 5.30pm next Friday 22 July at the Club.

To assist with catering, please RSVP to the office by Wednesday 20 July if you will be attending.

A mere $2 could win you $100!

Back in 2009, a group of regular Wednesday players created the Happy Hackers – a club within KBGC dedicated to fun, supporting the Club (especially the bar!) and mixing golf rivalry with social time. A proportion of the revenue generated by the Hackers is paid out in prizes and subsidising member functions. Additionally, the members make decisions about how to use any surplus such as previously contributing towards the upgrade of the Club carpark.

Anyone who plays on a Wednesday is welcome to join the Hackers. Here’s how it works:

Ø Complete the one-off Registration form and payment of $10 joining fee

Ø When you come in after playing on a Wednesday, pay $5 and record your score on the Hackers sheet at the bar

Ø When all Hackers are finished, the results are determined and presentations made:

o 1st prize receives 35% of the ‘pool’ on the day,

o 2nd prize 20%, and

o 3rd prize 15%.

The balance of funds from the day are banked and used towards twice-yearly social functions, including the end of year ‘Hacker of the Year’, awarded to the person with the most points from placings over the

year. Past winners of this sought after accolade include Keith Gunn, John Edwards and Rick De Paoli, who after cleaning up the award five of the seven years, is having a year off to give the rest of us a chance!

Dave Patmore is the face behind the Hackers and does a fabulous job with the administration, organisation and communication with members.

Members recently took a decision to use banked funds towards an evening acknowledging the long term commitment and contribution that Don Hitchens makes to

the Club. See next page for more about this!

Happy Hackers

Members may have noted recent activity to run new water pipes from the connection at the top of the practice area down to the cottage. We now have access to a source of potable water on course and will be looking at options to connect bubblers in the future.

A very sincere thank you to Nigel Vince and his team for doing the plumbing work, and to Neil Wade, Peter Cooper, Terry Cassidy and Pat Dwyer for their assistance in completing this project.

Also over the last 12 months or so, we have had many new businesses buying on-course advertising. Thank you to Carolyn Mason who has engaged with these businesses and generated welcome revenue for the club. Please support these businesses where you can, and let them know you’re a member at the Club.

Thank you

On 29 June, Happy Hackers surprised life member Don Hitchens with a dinner at the Club in his honour.

Past President Russell Morse was Master of Ceremonies and along with a few members, entertained the rest of us with tales of ‘Donny’s’ escapades over the years. Many who could not attend sent well wishes to Don on the night.

The real purpose of the night was to let Don how much his effort and commitment is appreciated. Many members may not see the countless hours Don puts in to ensure scorecards and handicaps are correctly recorded, in addition to the ad hoc tasks he does around the Club.

Thanks to the Hackers and the generous support of Motel 429 (Dave Patmore), Wrest Point (Lyndon Adams) and Steve Thomas (TNT Excavations), Don was presented with some gifts that should allow him to enjoy a fun night out to mark the occasion.

Thank You Don!

Holden Scramble It’s Holden Scramble day at KBGC on Sunday, 14 August. Contact the Pro Shop to enter your team.

Monthly Medals Congratulations Ian White, winner of men’s monthly medal in June.

The ladies June medal was cancelled due to the bad weather and course conditions.

Resigned Members While we happily welcomed 11 new members in June, we also lost three members.

Raising Funds to Upgrade our Paths Thank you to the wonderful members who have already donated to our fundraising project with the Australian Sports Foundation (ASF). So far we have raised just under $3,500 towards this project.

There’s still time to donate – the ASF has a unique status, which enables people to receive a tax deduction on donations of $2 or more made to sports projects registered with the foundation. To donate or find out more information, go to:
