Lesson #25 K-2 Bell Ringer: Have kids raise hands if trees need the following to grow: sun, water, soil, people, greenhouse, Then raise hands what trees give us: rood, paper, lumber, shade, milk, plastic etc. This exercise will show which students understand these concepts. Then, read aloud the Nonfiction Biography of The Tree Lady. Discuss author’s purpose as : to Inform Then read aloud the Fiction book titled, Ribbitt. Have students first make predictions about what they think will occur in this story. Then stop at the point of the book when other animals are arguing and and ask students why they believe this is occurring and what will the pig do?

(True) Booktalk and read aloud section of the KBA book, Gone Fishing. Discuss author’s purpose- to entertain and inform. It present different types of poetry and describes what these are in the back of the book. Read aloud: the nonfiction biography of The Tree Lady. Read KBA books: Trouper and This is the Rope These are both realistic Fiction stories that are based of real events that occurred to someone but fictional aspects were added to it. Exit: Present to the teacher by telling a statement that is an opinion when checking a book out. Students will choose 1 KBA to complete reflection on from today. Grades 3-5 (This may be done in lab classes and in library lessons according to the schedule) Students will go to computer lab to take the student voice surveys Bell Ringer: What is a survey? Thumbs up if a survey can be taken on a computer, paper, verbal, Review process of taking a survey on the computer and student question time. Students will stay one question at a time as it is read aloud for the students. Students will then answer the questions according to what they believe. Students will then log off appropriately. Lesson #27 Grade K-2 Bell Ringer: students stand up and then point to the section of the library where the books held up would be found: Fiction or Nonfiction. KBA read alouds: Hi Koo, Flight of the Bumble Bee, and Tap the Magic Tree. Discuss author’s purpose for the books and have students draw a line to connect the book cover to the part of the author’s all purpose pie. Check out new library books. KBA read aloud A Good Trade What was the setting of the KBA books- students will look back at the illustrated cover- can you identify the settings of each book we read aloud. Exit Activity: Then, each student will complete a reflection to vote for their favorite overall KBA book and explain why it is their favorite. The votes will be turned into the state KBA nominee contest. Check out new library books Grades 3-5 Bell Ringer: name the setting of your favorite book. Review any chapter KBA books that had been read by students to complete a book review sheet. Depending upon the schedules of the classes any additional read alouds of the KBA K-2 books will be shared with time left. Please note that some of the Computer lab lessons may be completed during Library class times. This will include those classes that are completing student voice activities(lesson 19). Computer Lab #19, 20, 21, 22 Lesson #19 Integrating access to communication through surveys using Technology. Students will log on to infinite campus using their assigned user and passwords provided. Students will then follow the procedures to log on in order to at a later date complete a student voice survey about their teacher. A review of questions can also be shown to the students after accessing their log ins.
