Year 11 Revision Planning All Year 11 students met last week with their tutor and Mr Locke to discuss their approaches to revision. In this session:
We discussed ‘how much’ revision to complete – as a guide, a minimum of 10 hours per exam was suggested
Students added up the number of exams they are facing this summer, and when these take place
We started to complete each student’s revision planner (also attached for reference), which will include: o Dates of exams o Dates of revision sessions which students will be attending o Days on which different revision activities are planned
Students also received their revision pack – containing exam essentials (pen, pencil, ruler, rubber, sharpener, protractor and highlighter pen), lists of revision sessions over the coming weeks, revision tips (including specific examples for English, Maths and Science), and a good luck card from their tutor group.
Revision planners should be coming home in the next couple of days – it would be ideal if this could be displayed somewhere prominent in your home e.g. stuck on the fridge – and that days are crossed off as the activities are completed. There is a copy of the revision planner on the next two pages. Please do get in touch if you have any further questions over the coming weeks. Mr Locke

Year 10 Parents Evening Year 10 Subject Meetings: Thursday 30th March 2017, 2pm to 6.00pm I am pleased to invite you to attend the Year 10 Subject Meetings on 30th March. These important meetings with subject teachers will give you the chance to review your child’s progress on their GCSE courses so far this year, and will allow you to discuss the next steps which need to be taken by your son/daughter to work towards achieving their goals. The meetings will also allow time to discuss suggestions of how you can help and support your child to be as successful as possible during this academic year. Can I take this opportunity to remind you that many Year 10 students take GCSE Statistics, and all will be taking GCSE English Literature, this year. These meetings will provide key information on how to best prepare students for these examinations. Other subjects will be discussing progress to date this year, and about preparation for the summer exam week (12th - 16th June 2017).
Parents’ Evening Booking System We are continuing to use an online service for parents to book appointments to meet with teachers. The booking system for Year 10 meetings will open on Monday 6th March to Tuesday 28th March. You can make your bookings by going to the school’s website and clicking on the link to the Parents’ Evenings’ Booking System . If you need to print your appointment list, please remember to do this before the booking system closes on Tuesday 28th March. If you have access to the internet then please make your appointments through the booking system. If you cannot use the online system your son or daughter will need to book an appointment for you with each subject teacher.
How will I access the booking system?
From today, you can go to the Kingdown School website and click on the parents’ meetings booking system link (at the bottom of the home page)
Will there be instructions on what to do?
You will find some short videos on the website to show you how to make your bookings and print, or email, your appointments list
What if I do not have a computer or, internet access?
If you do not have access to a computer, then your son or daughter will be able to collect an appointment sheet from their tutor and ask their subject teachers for an appointment on your behalf.
What if I have problem, or want further information?
You can email us: [email protected], or call the school and we will be happy to help. There is more information on the school website, or contact Mr Locke in school.
May I remind you of the following:
Lessons will end at 1.20pm on the day. Appointments run from 2:00pm to 6:00pm, with the last appointment at 5:55pm
Please arrive in school, on the day, with enough time before your first appointment to report to the Main School Reception to sign in and be given a visitor’s label (which we must ask you to wear throughout your time on the site)
Your son or daughter must accompany you to all of your appointments and students must wear full school uniform
Teaching staff will be located in various parts of the school (not necessarily in their usual classrooms), and your son or daughter will be able to help you find them.
We look forward to seeing you on 30th March. Yours sincerely D Locke Deputy Headteacher - School Improvement
