CLUB WELCOME

Mount Druitt Town Rangers FC host Rockdale City Suns FC in the National Premier League at Popondetta Park. Rangers warmly welcome our members, players, supporters and valued sponsors of Mount Druitt Town Rangers FC and we extend this welcome to our opponents to what promises to be another exciting night of Football at Popondetta Park, proudly brought to you by our fantastic long term sponsor NOVA Employment, focus on disABILITY.

As Season 2019 ventures further into the second cycle a review of the all important Club Championship reveals Rockdale is in 4th position having just played away to Hakoah last week and went home with just the 1st Grade points. Popondetta promises to provide an even tougher away trip! In our initial Round #04 meeting, Rangers defied the pundits and returned with a full 21points from 3 wins. The proposition of a repeat could well see Rangers leap other clubs having reclaimed the 10th rung after a gutsy come-from-behind win last weekend v. Manly.

LIMITED EDITION 50th ANNIVERSARY SCARVES have arrived. Look great and stay warm while supporting your team. Featuring the retro logo from Rangers last participation in the Football NSW top league 25 years ago and the special 50th edition logo this will be a treasured addition to your supporters kit.

At just $20 be quick to secure your piece of Popondetta and Rangers history.

We encourage all our Rangers members and supporters to join young Felix and don your scarf and roar the lads home. Let’s rock the joint with a healthy, vocal and energetic crowd in the cauldron of ‘Royal’ Popondetta to cheer home our Rangers.

We sincerely thank the outstanding support of our Blacktown City Council for the enormous contribution and efforts they put into preparing the Popondetta playing surface and facilities.

Rangers, it’s a grand ol’ team to play for…

For all we know there’s gunna be a show…

MATCH PREVIEW

Riding high off victory last round, Mt Druitt Town Rangers return to Popondetta Park to take on Rockdale City Suns on Saturday hoping to make it two wins in as many weeks.

The Rangers showed plenty of fighting spirit to comeback from 1-0 down last week before claiming a 2-1 win.

It was a performance which is sure to put a smile on coach Aidan Desmond’s face and he will be pushing his players to replicate that again this week.

New signing Mirjan Pavlovic didn’t find the back of the net on debut but did play well constantly threatening the Manly defence.

Expect Pavlovic to lead the line again this week with Desmond not expected to make too many changes to his line-up.

What more can be said for Fabricio Fernandez? The attacking midfielder is an absolute weapon and will again be looked at this weekend.

Rockdale come into this match after a big win against Hakoah Sydney City East to end their run of two straight defeats.

The Suns recent results has seen them fall away from the main chasing pack at the top of the table and they will need another win if they are to be back in the Premiership picture.

Jordan Figon rediscovered his scoring touch against Hakoah with a brace, while Alec Urosevski also found the back of the net.

Both players will be vital contributors for Rockdale on Saturday.

Mt Druitt will be very tough to beat at home but the fire power Rockdale possesses up front will make this a game which could go either way.

1ST GRADE REVIEWS

Mt Druitt Town Rangers 2 – Manly United 1 at Popondetta Park

Mt Druitt Town Rangers backed up their midweek FFA Cup heroics to upset Manly United 2-1 at Popondetta Park

Aidan Desmond’s men fought gallantly and never gave up even though Manly struck first via a Travis Oughtred header as a Toufic Alameddine penalty and John Roberts strike were enough to see the boys from Mt Druitt claim maximum points at home.

Alameddine netted from the spot in the final minute of the first-half to level the scores after Oughtred opened the scoring in the 34’ minute when meeting a corner to head home.

But it wasn’t enough as Roberts netted what turned out to be the winner in the 54’ minute with a sweetly struck shot that flew past Dylan Mitchell.

Hakoah Sydney City East 0 – Rockdale City Suns 4 at Hensley Athletic Field

Rockdale City Suns re-entered the NPL NSW top five and heaped more misery on rock-bottom Hakoah Sydney City East with a 4-0 win at Eastgardens on Sunday.

Nick Porreca’s side had dropped out of the finals positions following their five-goal collapse against Marconi Stallions a week ago but returned at the expense of Manly United after strolling past the luckless Hakoah at Hensley Athletic Field.

Jordan Figon and Leigh Egger fired in scrappy first-half goals before Suns striker Figon sealed his double and put the visitors in the clear five minutes after the interval.

Alec Urosevski added a fourth late on, consigning Hakoah – who lost ex-A-League star Predrag Bojic and his replacement James Combes to injury inside the space of 34 first half minutes – to their eleventh defeat of the campaign.

It leaves Gavin Rae’s side seven points adrift of eleventh-placed Mt. Druitt Town Rangers at the foot of the ladder.

U20’S MATCH PREVIEW

Mt Druitt took a point from an extraordinary draw with Manly United at Popondetta Park last weekend, but would surely trade the excitement for a result as they prepare to take on Rockdale on Saturday afternoon.

Mathew Nikolovski saved penalties two minutes after the kickoff and two minutes from time, while Sallu Kamara scored a brace as the ten-man Rangers came from behind to draw 2-2.

The result saw Mt Druitt slip a place to tenth ahead of this week’s game against Rockdale, who travel to Popondetta in fourth place after their Round 14 loss to Hakoah Sydney City East.

Rockdale have dropped points in seven of their last nine matches, and now find themselves on the edge of the five with Sutherland Sharks and Sydney Olympic right behind.
