Theseactivitiesaredesignedtohelpyourchildrentoreflectonandappreciatethe “learn and earn” fun and interest in the KidZania experience and to begin to evaluate their own skills and aptitudes.

As an extra practical activity, the children will interview various professions at the school (the Head Teacher, the School Secretary, a T.A. or a Caretaker) to understand what their job entails. If appropriate, they could then work shadow these job roles in school.

There are two lessons which are one hour each. However, there are two more activities supplied for an extra 2 hours of lessons.

KS2 – KIDZANIA POST-VISIT LESSON PLAN

LESSON 1

Starter Remind the children about their visit to KidZania and show photographs (if available) on your whiteboard of their visit.

20 mins Powerpoint slide 2-3 Remind children that a visit to KidZania helps children to realise their ambitions — what they would like to do in their working life in the future. Their visit has given them a taster of the different careers available and their preferences and skills in deciding what they would like to do.

Thought-shower all the different job roles that they experienced at KidZania and write them down on the whiteboard. Ask what kind of skills and abilities are required to carry out those jobs? (For example, to be a dentist, they need to know about science and the human body).

20 mins Powerpoint slide 4 Personality Adjectives Worksheet Explain to the students that they are going to be thinking about themselves and what makes them who they are. They are going to examine their skills and interests and write about what they learned about themselves during their visit to KidZania.

Ask the children to work in pairs so that they can ask a partner about themselves.TheyshouldfillinthePersonalityAdjectivesworksheet. They should then write a paragraph about themselves and what they learned about themselves during their visit to KidZania.

20 mins Skills Profile Worksheet Pupils will evaluate and audit their skills for success and then come up with strategies to improve and develop. They will recognise that success depends of understanding what is required and acting upon this knowledge.

KS2 – KIDZANIA POST-VISIT LESSON PLAN

LESSON 2

Starter Recap the previous lesson, asking children to talk with a partner about their favourite activity during their visit to KidZania.

50 mins Powerpoint slide 6 Computing Activity Children will be able to build on the careers knowledge gained at KidZania. They will play the online Careers Game on the Plotr website (https://www.plotr.co.uk) and then carry out research activities into different careers that they sampled at KidZania, to develop an understanding of how to achieve their ambitions in later life.

5 mins PLENARY Powerpoint slide 7-8 Children will write on a piece of paper what job they want to do when they leave school. Put them in envelopes to reveal when they leave school! What different jobs could they try on their next visit to KidZania to improve different skills?

KS2 – KIDZANIA POST-VISIT LESSON PLAN

LESSON 3

Starter Recap with the children the work they did on the computer and the research they did into different careers based on their experience at KidZania.

35 mins Powerpoint slide 10 - Interview Worksheet You will need to arrange for the Head Teacher, School Secretary, Teaching Assistant, Caretaker or other member of staff to come to the lesson and speak about their job. This can be carried out as a whole class activity by inviting the different staff members into the classroom one at a time, or split the children into small groups with the Interview Worksheet and ask them to go and speak with staff members about their jobs and skills.

20 mins Powerpoint slide 11 - Teacher Job Advert Worksheet Children will evaluate the role of a teacher to understand that teaching is a job that requires many skills that must be learned.

LESSON 4

60 mins School Jobs Take-Over/Work Experience Powerpoint slide 13 With the permission of the Head Teacher and other school staff, choose a morning or an afternoon where children can work shadow different members of the school team, to understand what their job entails and the skills required to carry it out.
