From the Desk of Mr. Kleeman

Congratulations to Gus Bohmbach, Zach Andersen, and John Tomjack for placing at the State Wrestling Tourna-

ment in Fargo. Thank you to fans, parents, athletes and coaches for all that you do to make our Cowboy Wrestling

program successful. Elementary wrestling began Monday, February 24. It is not too late for anyone who is still

interested. Track starts Monday, February 24. All students are welcome to come participate and try their skills at

the many track and field events. High school golf begins Monday, March 23rd .

All the Sophomores will be taking the Pre-ACT at the school on March 14. All Juniors will be taking the ACT at

the school on March 3rd . Prom is scheduled for Saturday, April 4. Remember all students must be eligible in or-

der to attend Prom. These dates and more are listed on the rSchool Today app. Please see the main office for in-

structions.

Midterm grades will be sent home March 13. Students and parents can track student progress and grades on Pow-

erSchool. Parents can contact the main office if they do not have a sign in and/or password. Also remember stu-

dents are only allowed to miss 10 days a semester, after their 10th day students will lose credit in those classes.

Students can make up those hours by coming after school and serving time. If you have any question or concerns,

please feel free to call the school.

Karter Kleeman, Secondary Principal

From the Desk of Mr. Cook

March 13th is the official end of the third quarter. It is hard to believe that the school year is almost ¾ complete.

As we come through a hard hitting flu season I want to again remind parents to keep their student home if the stu-

dent is running a fever or showing signs of illness.

The North Dakota State Assessment is coming up in April. If, for any reason, your student will not be present or

will not be taking the test, please come in and see me as there is documentation that must be filled out. This year

North Dakota is taking a new test, using the newly adopted North Dakota State Standards. Gone are the Smarter

Balanced test and the Common Core standards.

We have started receiving calls in regard to pre-school and kindergarten registration. We will be starting the pro-

cess of registering new students in April.

If you are a teacher who is interested in teaching elementary or know someone who is an elementary teacher in the

area who would like to work at Killdeer, please have them contact me at 701-764-5877 Ext. 1004 or at

[email protected].

Robotics News

Dr. West, Robotics Instructor

On February 1st the Killdeer Robotics team consisting of Eli Spears participated in the North Dakota FIRST Robotics State Championship. He competed against 32 other teams from across North Dakota, South Dakota, and Minnesota. In our first year competing in FIRST Robotics, Killdeer finished in 12th place with a 3-2 record. Previously Killdeer had competed in BEST Robotics. In FIRST Robotics, for every preliminary match each team is randomly assigned another team for their alliance. The alliance then competes in a match against another alliance and whichever alliance scores the most points wins the match. Each match consists of a 30 second autonomous portion where the robot performs preprogrammed instructions and a 2 minute manual portion where each team wirelessly controls their robot. After each team plays five preliminary matches with different alliance members each time, the top four schools by record get to pick their alliance member for the semifinal matches.

Congratulations to Eli Spears of the Killdeer Robotics team on a successful season.

FFA Winter CDE Judging Season Kicks Off at Roughrider Judging Contest On February 1st, the Killdeer FFA Chapter competed in the Livestock Evaluation, Agricultural Sales, and Agrono-

my Career Development Events (CDEs) in Dickinson. It was an excellent first contest to start off the judging sea-

son. These events provide valuable learning opportunities that can transfer into a future career.

Livestock Evaluation provides participants with an opportunity to test their skills in the judging and selection of

livestock. This CDE also measures the student’s knowledge in the following categories: to make accurate obser-

vations of livestock; to determine the desirable traits in animals; to make logical decisions based on these observa-

tions; to discuss and defend their decisions for their placing; to install an appreciation for desirable human selec-

tion, management and marketing techniques; to gain a basic understanding of the livestock industry.

The marketing of agricultural products is the key to profitability in today's competitive economy, and agricultural

sales play a major role in this marketing process for a large segment of agribusinesses. Through this event, stu-

dents will have the opportunity to prepare for careers in sales by participating in activities oriented around the

sales process.

The Agronomy CDE is designed to create interest and promote understanding in agronomy by providing opportu-

nities for recognition through the demonstration of skills and proficiencies in areas of: Selection of Seed Grain

(placing & reasons), Crops and Weeds - Seed and Plant Identification, Grain Marketing, Pest Management- Insects

& Disorders, Equipment Management, and Soils.

It was a very successful day, and for many of the members, it was their first competition ever! The results of the

day are as follows:

Livestock Evaluation: 1st place Gold Team. Individual results: Shadera Burian- 1st place High Individual, Jaylynn

Hicks- 2nd place gold individual, Shawna Burian- 9th place gold individual

den- gold individual, Hatten Kleeman- silver individual, Tate Simmons- silver individual, and Abigail Sadowsky-

bronze individual
