A CBI/NUS research study (2011) claims by 2017 56% more jobs in the UK will require level 5 (graduate equivalent) qualifications. The CBI predict employers' demand for unskilled workers will decrease by 12%.

• UK apprentices per 1,000 employees is 11, compared with: 33 in Austria, 17 in France, 40 in Germany and 43 in Switzerland.  

• UK apprentice completion rate is 74%, compared with: 85% in Austria, 79% in France, 80% in Germany and 79% in Switzerland.

• UK 16-24 jobless rate is 20% compared  with: 10% in Austria, 21% in France, 8% in Germany and 3.5% in Switzerland.
