LUNCH & LEARN: Tuesday May 7th at 11:30

Join us ion May 7th for a Lunch & Learn with Dr.

Rachel Bates of Associated Eye Surgeons - Is it dry

eyes? Is it an allergic reaction? Is it debris stuck in

my lashes? Is it from staring at my screen? Is it a

reaction to eye makeup? Is it eye strain? Do I need

new glasses? This is a common scenario especially by

the end of an active day. For others, the morning,

upon wakening may be the time of day when you can

experience your worst eye symptoms. You may be

light sensitive, feeling like you have sand or grit in

your eyes. You may have a burning itching feeling, a

constant red look to your eyes, tearing watery eyes, or

vision that fluctuates with reading. Stop Guessing!

Stop purchasing products that may offer no relief.

Lunch: Grilled cheese with bacon, French fires and

Pudding will be served by Joyce and her volunteer

staff for just $3.00 please sign up in the event book or

Director’s Corner Welcome to the month of May

and all the flowers that greet us. Remember to take some time and enjoy the simplistic beauty of a flower! May is Older Americans Month and the following information is shared with us from Old Colony Elder Services (OCES). They reminded me of what I feel is important to me: Family and Community! I think we have a great little community here at the KCOA and it truly has become a second family to many of us. I hope the following information provided by OCES inspires you to stay connected or reach out for help if you need it.

The Administration for Community Living (ACL)

leads our nation’s observance of Older Americans

Month. This year’s theme, Connect, Create,

Contribute, encourages older adults and their

communities to:

• Connect with friends, family, and local services

and resources.

• Create through activities that promote learning,

health, and personal enrichment.

• Contribute time, talent, and life experience to

benefit others.

Each year, more and more older adults are making a

positive impact in and around their communities. As

volunteers, employees, employers, educators, mentors,

advocates, and more, they offer insight and experience

that benefit the entire community. That’s why Older

Americans Month has been recognizing the

contributions of this growing population for 56 years.

According to the Executive Office of Elder Affairs, in

Massachusetts, the number of residents who are over

60 years-old outweighs the number of

residents younger than 20 years-old.1

CONSUMERISM FOR CABLE AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS

“Understanding your cable, cell phone or home phone (if you still have one) bill can be challenge for some.

Know what to look for when comparing bundled services:

Look for the three “P’s” - programming, promotion and pricing

Cost of the equipment and installation

Taxes, fees, and surcharges

PROGRAMMIING, PROMOTION AND PRICING:

• Pay close attention to the pay-per view channels both during and after the promotional offer

• Ask about specials, pricing, coupons, vouchers offered for installation costs

• Ask when specials end and to send you the promotion in the mail (especially for new customers)

• Ask about the termination fee applicable

COST OF EQUIPMENT AND INSTALLATION:

• What is the cost of the converter box and whether it is best to rent versus buying the equipment?

• Make sure your equipment matches the programming/special equipment is required for international

programming

• Do you need an HD converter box?

• DVR services are available; just be aware of the cost

TAXES, FEES AND SURCHARGES:

• Always ask if about Early Termination Fees (ETF’s)

• Does downgrading a higher service plan to a lower-priced result in ETF’s

• What is the cost of the “activation fees”?

• Ask the cable provider to explain franchise-fees as well as surcharges”

Shaker Heights, a placid, progressive

residents will go on to lead. And no

one embodies this spirit more than Elena Richardson,

whose guiding principle is playing by the rules. Enter

Mia Warren, an enigmatic artist and single mother

who arrives in this idyllic bubble with her teenaged

daughter : all four Richardson children are drawn to

the mother-daughter pair. But Mia carries with her a

that threatens to upend this carful ordered

ladies who used them before us and if we had and

opportunity to talk to them, I'm sure they would have

experienced the same!
