To Carmella DeFazio Quinones, my mother, who made sure that I had special dolls that were
impeccably dressed with beautiful purchased, hand-sewn,and knit and crocheted pieces.
Also to Josephine, Mary Kay, Diana, Angela, and all my childhood friends who played “dolls”
with me, many moons ago.
And to my brother, Benjie, who always refusedto play “dolls” with me.

Little girls love to play with dolls! I certainly did,
and now I love to design for them. The 18-inch dolls featured in this book have soared in popularity in recent
years, and they’re the perfect size to show off knitted fashions.
In this book you’ll find a closetful. The outfits I’ve created range from casual
to formal, tomboy to princess, and they’re all fun to knit and fun to
accessorize. In fact, many of the projects include dainty knitted
accessories, from purses to hats to socks.
I’ve created these designs as I create designs for children:
to be unique, fashionable, and fun to wear. After all,
the dolls of our children are like their children, and dressing the dolls in
these fashions will give them a whole new personality and a closer
connection with their “play mommies.”
These knits for dolls are a wonderful opportunity for adults and
children to learn, have fun, and be creative together. You can inspire
a child to discover the joy of knitting as you work and then play
together in a fashionable world that you create.
Everyone likes to play dress-up . . . even us big girls. Happy knitting!

It takes a village—or in this case a dollhouse—fullof very talented and hard-working publishing pros atSixth&Spring to make a book!
I want to thank for their benevolence the godfathers, ArtJoinnides and Jay Stein, who made me an offer that Icould refuse, but didn’t!
Many thanks to Trisha Malcolm and Carla Scottfor their ongoing support, encouragement, and talent.
My fantastic editor, Joy Aquilino (a real doll).
Diane Lamphron, art director extraordinaire, for her artisticflair and her patience in putting up with me.
Jack Deutsch (the guy among the dolls) and his team, whogot the dolls to stand and pose for his always lovely photos.I swear, when he said “say cheese” . . . they smiled!
Johanna Levy, the stylist whose contributions to clothing, hair, and other elements helped bring the dolls to life.
Lisa Silverman, our hard-working developmentaleditor, whose descriptive prose captured the essenceof the garments.
Christina Behnke, our yarn editor, who beautifully matchedthe right yarn to the right doll.
Sandi Prosser, Nancy Henderson, and Lori Steinberg, our eagle-eyed technical editors and proofreaders.
Amy Polcyn, our intelligent and capable pattern writer.
David Joinnides, a boy doll!
Mary Taylor, for her support and great idea forthe back cover.
Thanks to my intrepid knitters, with their littleneedles and big hearts, who made my deadlinesand kept me in stitches: Nancy Henderson, Jo Brandon, and Deanna Van Assche.
Thanks to the generous folks at JHB International, whosupplied all the lovely buttons.
Thanks also to Alexander Doll Company, a division ofKLL Dolls, LLC, for contributing their beautiful dolls toour photography.
And thank you to all the little people . . . of course,I mean the dolls!
