He who grasps this thought has before him an infinite field for study. He has the key that will unlock to him

“Thy way, O God, [is] in the sanctuary: who [is so] great a God as [our] God?” {Psalm 77:13}

“I saw the necessity of the messengers, especially, watching and checking all fanaticism wherever they might see it

rise. Satan is pressing in on every side, and unless we watch for him, and have our eyes open to his devices and snares,

and have on the whole armor of God, the fiery darts of the wicked will hit us. There are many precious truths con-

tained in the Word of God, but it is "present truth" that the flock needs now. I have seen the danger of the messengers

running off from the important points of present truth, to dwell upon subjects that are not calculated to unite the flock

and sanctify the soul. Satan will here take every possible advantage to injure the cause. {EW 63.1}

But such subjects as the sanctuary, in connection with the 2300 days, the commandments of God and the faith of

Jesus, are perfectly calculated to explain the past Advent movement and show what our present position is, establish

the faith of the doubting, and give certainty to the glorious future. These, I have frequently seen, were the principal

subjects on which the messengers should dwell.” {EW 63.2}

“The slaying of the Passover lamb was a shadow of the death of Christ. Says Paul: "Christ our Passover is sacrificed for

us." 1 Corinthians 5:7. The sheaf of first fruits, which at the time of the Passover was waved before the Lord, was typi-

cal of the resurrection of Christ. Paul says, in speaking of the resurrection of the Lord and of all His people: "Christ the

first fruits; afterward they that are Christ's at His coming." 1 Corinthians 15:23. Like the wave sheaf, which was the

first ripe grain gathered before the harvest, Christ is the first fruits of that immortal harvest of redeemed ones that at the

future resurrection shall be gathered into the garner of God. {GC 399.2}

These types were fulfilled, not only as to the event, but as to the time. On the fourteenth day of the first Jewish

month, the very day and month on which for fifteen long centuries the Passover lamb had been slain, Christ, having

eaten the Passover with His disciples, instituted that feast which was to commemorate His own death as "the Lamb of

God, which taketh away the sin of the world." That same night He was taken by wicked hands to be crucified and slain.

And as the antitype of the wave sheaf our Lord was raised from the dead on the third day, "the first fruits of them that

slept," a sample of all the resurrected just, whose "vile body" shall be changed, and "fashioned like unto His glorious

body." Verse 20; Philippians 3:21. In like manner the types which relate to the second advent must be fulfilled at

the time pointed out in the symbolic service. {GC:399-400}

“As a people, we should be earnest students of prophecy; we should not rest until we become intelligent in regard

to the subject of the sanctuary, which is brought out in the visions of Daniel and John. This subject sheds great light

on our present position and work, and gives us unmistakable proof that God has led us in our past experience. It ex-

plains our disappointment in 1844, showing us that the sanctuary to be cleansed was not the earth, as we had supposed,

but that Christ then entered into the most holy apartment of the heavenly sanctuary, and is there performing the closing

work of His priestly office, in fulfillment of the words of the angel to the prophet Daniel, "Unto two thousand and three

hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed." {Ev 222.3}

should be doing, therefore the number “7” would have to be tied directly to the study of the sanctuary.

“In the year 1840, another remarkable fulfillment of prophecy excited widespread interest. Two years before, Josiah Litch, one of the leading

ministers preaching the second advent, published an exposition of Revelation 9, predicting the fall of the Ottoman empire, and specifying not

only the year but the very day on which this would take place. According to this exposition, which was purely a matter of calculation on the

prophetic periods of Scripture, the Turkish government would surrender its independence on the eleventh day of August, 1840. The prediction

was widely published, and thousands watched the course of events with eager interest. {GC88 334.4}

At the very time specified, Turkey, through her ambassadors, accepted the protection of the allied powers of Europe, and thus placed herself

under the control of Christian nations. The event exactly fulfilled the prediction. When it became known, multitudes were convinced of the

correctness of the principles of prophetic interpretation adopted by Miller and his associates, and a wonderful impetus was given to the Advent

movement. Men of learning and position united with Miller, both in preaching and publishing his views, and from 1840 to 1844 the work rap-
