Ourimbah Public School was represented by Charlotte Elford and Nathan Alexander. The challenge this year was battery (stored) energy. The project involved students researching the topic area, presenting a report and constructing a working model that demonstrated how battery energy is created and used. Challenges were completed at home, supervised by family. This year the presentation and projects were adjudicated by two High School science teachers, who were thoroughly impressed by the high standard and diversity of the projects. I commend Charlotte and Nathan for their effort and the high standard of their research and models. This is a great opportunity for students. I hope that more students and families take advantage of the challenge next year. SPORTS NEWS 2009 PRIMARY ATHLETICS CARNIVAL Congratulations to all the children who competed at the Primary Athletics Carnival at Sohier Park. It was great to see everyone having a go, regardless of the result, in all events. The last of the jumps finals were completed at school last Friday and all ribbons have been handed out to the top 4 in each event. The school team will compete tomorrow and Friday at the Mingara athletics complex. Good luck to all involved. Presentation of trophies to our age champions will take place in the coming weeks when the trophies come back from the engravers. I can tell you the competition was very close in all age groups as well as with the final point score. I’ll keep you all in suspense until that final trophy presentation to the winning house at the assembly in September. Finally a huge thank you to all the parent helpers and past staff members etc, who were able to assist on the day. Your efforts were greatly appreciated. Gary Edwards – Sports Organiser STATE TOUCH KNOCKOUT Congratulations to both the boys’ and girls’ teams who were successful at the recent Touch Gala Day winning all three rounds. Both teams will now play Berkeley Vale in round 4 next Monday. Good luck. Mr Formby and Mr Edwards DRAMA NEWS Our special drama group went to Lambton High on Friday 21st August to compete at Regional level in the Drama Festival. Congratulations to Josh Hanlon, Joshua Knibb, Taylor Smith, Maddie Waugh, Daelin Coutts-Bain, Blake Chapman-Galleghan, Austin Brook, Shae-Lee Polidano, Liam Loader and Nick Whymark on your success. Price MUSIC NEWS Choir students need plain black slacks/trousers and a cheap pair of sunglasses for our concerts on the10th September. Don’t forget tickets for all concerts are now on sale. CULTURAL EVENING On Monday September 21st at 7pm in the school hall we are having a musical evening. The band, choir, soloists and public speakers will perform.

SCHOOL WEBSITE Don’t forget our school website is now up and running. The calendar is updated regularly for your convenience, so that you can see all the upcoming events at Ourimbah Public School. Go to www.ourimbah-p.schools.nsw.edu.au SELECTIVE HIGH SCHOOL OFFERS Congratulations to Hannah Box, Kerry Heffernan and Austin Blake who have been offered a place at Gosford High school for Year 7 in 2010. Also to Edyn Dening who is on the reserve list. 9 DAYS TO THE FATHERS’ DAY STALL

Thank you to all those families who have sent in some very generous donations so far; however many more are needed, so keep them coming.

All donations can be left at the office. Only new and unused items please. The Fathers’ Day Stall will be held on the 4th September, 2009. The P&C have decided that rather than buy more plastic bags to send the gifts home in, we would try and do some recycling. The gifts are already nicely wrapped in cellophane so the bag is really only to hide the article till the big day. So for all of you who have a cupboard full of clean previous years’ bags or nice bags waiting to be reused, please send them in. We are also happy to take department store bags eg Target, Big W, Grace Brothers, DJs, Rivers, etc, even paper and environmental bags. Anyone wishing to help with selling and wrapping on the day please contact Judy Worth on 43621649. THANK YOU HELPERS A big thank you to the helpers at the pre-schoolers morning tea that was on the held on Wednesday 19th August, especially Diane Maloney and Sarah Alexander, without whom it would not have run so successfully.

2010 CALENDARS

Please return your order forms for the 2010 calendars with your child’s artwork attached by the 25th September, 2009.

The children will be creating the artworks later in the term. For those wishing to purchase, the artwork is then sent off to be scanned, printed, laminated and attached to a twelve month tear off calendar. Your child will be thrilled to see their artwork displayed all year round and they will make great gifts for the family at Christmas. There is one order form per child. Please fill out the order forms clearly, as they are attached to the artwork before mailing off. The calendars are $10 each. This is payable in cash or cheque made out to Ourimbah Public School P&C. Any queries please contact Judy Worth on 43621649.

LEADERSHIP PROJECT

☺This term we extended the peer support

lessons so that all students K-6 could use the

equipment out of the blue sports bags. These

bags are kept in our classrooms and were

provided by a sports grant from Wyong

Council.

The Year Six Peer Support Leaders met

their groups, explained some safe & sensible

games, and then played them on A oval, B oval

or C oval.

This has been a great success, and the

teachers seemed to enjoy it as well!

Overall, this project is working really well.

It’s great to see lots of students playing

safe and sensible games in the play ground at

lunchtime.

Leadership Team Representatives

A big thank you to the families and friends who have sponsored MS Readathon participants during the 30th year of the MS Readathon! As students begin to close their books on this year’s program it is now time to return sponsorship funds and collect their hard-earned certificate and reading rewards. With an official money-due date of August 31st, the fastest way to return sponsorship is online with the help of mum or dad. Students can also return the Completion Form (which they received in the post recently) and any receipt books sent to them. If you have misplaced your form, a replacement can be downloaded from www.msreadathon.org.au or call 1300 677 323 to speak to the State Office.
