I think most people know Tivoli, the oldest amusement park in the world, situated in the centre of Copenhagen since the Gardens were established more than 150 years ago. Tivoli is unequalled the most popular tourist attraction in Denmark with more than 4 million visitors every year, which is not bad for a country with just over 5 million inhabitants. However, Tivoli is more than just an amusement park, it is also one of the most important cultural institutions in Denmark being a facilitator of world-class music, theater and ballet. This year, Tivoli stages the Christmas ballet, The Nutcracker, with the Danish Queen as scenographer. Tivoli is a brand of international format and we are therefore very proud to announce that we have signed an agreement of cooperation with Tivoli, which makes fur highly visible in the old amusement park. Kopenhagen Fur is to provide NIMB, the Tivoli hotel and its restaurants, with spectacular fur items for decorating and furnishing. Similarly, Kopenhagen Fur gets the opportunity to sell fur articles at Tivoli’s traditional Christmas market. We hope that many of our good friends will visit Tivoli in connection with the December auction. This year, our booth will primarily sell Christmas hearts in mink and all the proceeds will go to children with cancer. Each day during the period from 15 November until Christmas, the booth will be manned by MPs and other celebrities who will spend a few hours on the good purpose. We expect to donate more than one million DKK for children with cancer. About a year ago, Kopenhagen Fur formed a strategic alliance with the trade association for Danish textile and clothing companies and the Danish Jewelers’ association. The aim was to establish a joint competence centre in Copenhagen with the objective to make Copenhagen the step stone into Europe for foreign
companies. The initiative has been so well received that the municipality of Copenhagen and the Danish Government have adopted the initiative as an official strategy within the creative industries. We are obviously very proud, as fur becomes a recognized element of the Danish Government’s growth plans. The municipality of Copenhagen and the Danish Government thereby recognize our industry’s professional capabilities of creating economic growth, jobs and prosperity. We are currently concluding a series of formal agreements with public institutions so that fashion and fur companies choosing to establish themselves directly or indirectly in Copenhagen, through alliances with or acquisitions of Danish companies, get the best possible service and support from the Danish authorities - of course, in close collaboration with the
new competence centre. The new centre will be situated in the centre of Copenhagen in an old preserved mansion. Kopenhagen Studio, Kopenhagen Fur’s creative centre, will move to the new centre. Similarly, the Danish Fashion & Textile and the Danish Jewelers’ association will move into the centre. The goal is, of course, to ensure mutual inspiration, so that fur becomes a natural part of all fashion collections. Altogether, 2012 will be the best ever for the fur industry in Denmark. A good sale, good prices and very importantly, much credit to the industry from the surrounding community. This bodes well for the future.

swaKara white sPeCiaList bought toP LotMr. Werner Merzbacher bought the swakara White top lot at a price of 1,080 DKK per skin. The top lot purchase was certainly not his only swakara White purchase at Kopenhagen Fur’s September auction.
Mr. Werner Merzbacher and his company Mayer & CIE AG have a long history with swakara, which dates back for at least ten years.- swakara White is one of our company’s specialties. At the September auction, we bought more than 4,000 swakara White skins, Mr. Werner Merzbacher says.
Mayer & CIE AG holds offices in Frankfurt, Germany and Zug, Switzerland. From there, the company supplies customers mainly in Russia and East Asia. When meeting customers in places such as the fur fair in Hong Kong, the swakara White top lot proves the company’s strengths.
- Showing customers that we excel in areas of specialization, they know we can provide them with the right product, Mr. Werner Merzbacher explains.

With Chief Auctioneer Paul Pedersen controlling the bidding on the day of his 60th birthday, Sunday evening at Kopenhagen Fur’s September auction was subject to a bidding war, which is worth remembering both for the birthday boy, the buyer and everyone else present in the auction room.
The buyer Mr. Limin Shen, Board chairman of Zhejiang Three Stars Leather Co.,Ltd., won the tough competition with a final bid for the 50 skins of the type Black Velvet Females Short nap 2 as high as 3,600 DKK (619,30 USD) per skin. As soon as Mr. Paul Pedersen dropped the hammer, Mr. Limin Shen immediately got applauded by the entire auction room, where most people got up from their seats to follow the ongoing show.
300 bidsWith Mr. Limin Shen as one of the combatants in the intense bidding duel and the buyer of the Silverblue Cross males top lot at the September auction as the other, Mr. Paul Pedersen got a chance to show his rapid and superior skills as an experienced auctioneer. Starting off at 600 DKK, the bidding carried on with high intensity and quickly left the two very determined buyers taking turns to push the price higher and higher 10 DKK at a time, totalling 300 bids.
Afterwards, a still excited Mr. Limin Shen revealed that this was his first appearance ever at a fur auction. For five years, he has bought mink skins at Kopenhagen Fur’s auctions through
business partners attending the auctions. However, the atmosphere of the auction amazed him right away and made him even more determined to carry through his plan of buying the top lot.
- I already knew beforehand that I would bid for the top lot, but the excitement of actually being in the auction room myself carried me away and made me want the top lot no matter how high the price came, Mr. Limin Shen explains.
aiming for the toPAs the company name reveals, Zheijian Three Stars Leather Co.,Ltd. also deals with leather. The company’s brand, Three Stars Shining, is ranked within the top ten leather brands in China. Already one of the biggest fur manufacturers in the Chinese city of Haining, Mr. Limin Shen’s ambition is to achieve the same status for the Three Stars Shining fur brand. In order to succeed with this strategy, Mr. Limin Shen sees the purchase of a top lot from a Kopenhagen Fur auction as an important step.
- Danish mink skins sold through Kopenhagen Fur are well renowned for their high quality in the fur industry. Since the ambition is to show that our company always aims to find the best skins for our factory, the top lot purchase was the logical choice, Mr. Limin Shen states.
The skins from the top lot will be used for styles, which will be presented at exhibitions to show the high level of skills and techniques used to produce fur garments of the Three Stars Shining brand. All in all, Mr. Limin Shen is very pleased that he stuck to his decision to carry out his task.
- For me, the fact that I had to pay a high price and struggle for the top lot holds a value in itself. I will always remember my first auction purchase as an unforgettable and good experience, Mr. Limin Shen says with a smile.

Kopenhagen Fur’s efforts for underprivileged children in Namibia echo throughout the southwest African desert country. The project is well-known among the African people, as it creates hope in a community where the need for help is great. Kopenhagen Fur Charity and the Namibian NGO, S.P.E.S. Charity work hard to improve the conditions for children who come from environments where deprivation and despair are part of their daily lives. With the money raised from the sale of the donated skins Kopenhagen Fur Charity supports 40 preschools in the poorest areas of Windhoek. More than 1,500 children benefit from the helps, which Kopenhagen Charity provides. In the preschools the children get their first and perhaps most important introduction to their future
lives. They are stimulated to absorb social, intellectual and motoric skills. - Kopenhagen Fur has been involved in the preschool project in Namibia for six years now. Through their unconditional involvement a large number of childrens’ and teachers’ lives have been touched so much that it is difficult to explain in words. The future of these children and teachers holds such wonderful possibilities and opportunities thanks to all Kopenhagen Fur has made possible for them, says Esme Cortez who is the project manager of S.P.E.S Charity.
a visit to namibiaIn October, Else and Børge Papsø, two Danish fur breeders went to Namibia to see the preschools which they and many other Danish and Dutch fur breeders support.
The trip gave many new impressions and profound experiences that the couple will never forget. They went on a fieldtrip with the children, participated in a traditional Namibian lunch and received gifts and hugs from the children, who also asked them to be their grandparents and to please come back soon. - We received such a great welcome in all of the preschools we visited. Both children and teachers were so happy and grateful for the help we provide. It was a moving experience. To think that we contribute to change the lives of so many children and their families in Namibia’s poor areas with money from skins we used to dispose of is touching, say Else and Børge Papsø.
This year, the Danish and Dutch fur breeders have contributed 10,820 skins to Kopenhagen Fur Charity. The skins brought in a total of 1,257,484 DKK. The total amount will go to the support of underprivileged children in Windhoek, the capital of Namibia.

It is not every day you see a girl wearing clip-on cat ears made of mink. It looks like an unusual creation, but the ears are also worn by an unusual girl. Ms. Samantha De Reviziis is a Torino-born fur aficionado, who runs the blog, WeLoveFur.com. It has become very popular within the fashion world of fur and had almost 9,000 visitors last year. Samantha blogs under the name Lady Fur, a character she made up, when she got the idea to start the blog. Today a registered company. She blogs exclusively about fur and as far as she knows, it is the first of its kind on the internet. - I couldn’t believe that no such blog existed, so I just decided to start up right away, and it has become a great success, says Samantha, who’s working on her own fur collection at the moment.
born with furSamantha was almost born with a fur coat on.
From when she was an infant, her grandmother made sure she knew what fur really was. As a result, Samantha already knew the different furs from various animals at the age of 7. - My grandmother had many different fur coats, and when I was young, she used to spread out her coats on the bed, and let me swim around in them. Then I had to tell her, if it was fox, mink or sable. I still remember it, Samantha says. According to Samantha, most young people are misinformed about the fur industry
the Passion of Lady furIf Samantha De Reviziis could grow her own fur, she probably would. She has a burning passion for the soft material and it started from the day she was born – literally. She has a vision, a blog and a new fur collection coming up.
by Christian serritsLev riis
According to Samantha, most young people are misinformed about the fur industry and the animal welfare standards that are part of it. One of the key objectives of the blog is to inform young people about the fur industry and the lifecycle of the fur, from animal to final product.

and the animal welfare standards that are part of it. One of the key objectives of the blog is to inform young people about the fur industry and the lifecycle of the fur, from animal to final product. - It’s very important to understand what you are wearing. My grandmother told me to treat my fur coats like human beings. Therefore, my love for fur comes from respect for the animals. Fur is a gift from nature and we should use it with care and respect, she says. On top of that, Samantha is a vegetarian. To some people that sounds like an odd combination for a fur aficionado, with a big collection of fur coats, but she considers it a personal choice, much like the choice of using fur, or not using fur. You should make that
choice on an informed basis. Not on the basis of the media-made picture of the fur industry.
‘we are animaLs’The media made ‘truth’ is part of the reason why Samantha started working on her own fur collection. However, the urge to create is most important. Her debut collection is made entirely from a combination of leather and fur. The We Are Animals collection uses the entire body of the animal to make sure nothing is wasted, including head, belly and tail. The collection is inspired by her lifelong love for Japanese culture, history and living. It will shine through in the collection, she promises.
- I’m very much inspired by the cut of the kimono, and the young Japanese generation, so I think it appeals to young people with a rock soul. The collection will consist of four fur coats, three hats and a variety of accessories, like the cat ears. Three coats are for women and one is unisex. The natural colours of the skins will be the main colours of the collection, contrasted with night black and violet. Samantha is working hard to complete the new collection and she will not reveal more details or pictures, until the presentation in Milan, where you can go see it for yourself. The official launch will take place at the Milan Fashion Week in January.

A total of 450 invited guests braved the Danish fall weather and made it to the headquarters of Kopenhagen Fur for the show. The atmosphere was exclusive, yet casual, with cupcakes on the plates and champagne bubbling in the glasses. It was clear that the night was a celebration of fashion, rather than a competition. For the first time ‘menswear’ was one of the three categories, and to back it up Peter Falktoft, Danish radio host, was chosen to present the show.
innovation at its bestEvery year, The Golden Fur Pin urges young designers to push the boundaries of fur and the possibilities of the material. This year was no exception. As a result, the runway witnessed everything from big pompous chairs and bicycle seat covers to classic jackets and bags. In womenswear, Lærke Koldskov from TEKO School of Design, won with an incredible tribal-inspired dress. With a combination of leather and regular and sheared mink she impressed the judges, who especially praised the way her piece complimented the shape of the female body instead of hiding it. - The dress has a very strong pattern, and it looks organic and graphical. But all in all, it’s just a stunning dress, so we had no choice but to award Lærke’s style, the judges said. The new category ‘menswear’ was a different story. By attaching two mink bags on to a baggy sweater, Ms. Ramona Jutta Reile from Kolding School of Design combined accessories and clothing. - When creating fur clothing for men, you are walking on a knife edge. It can easily be too clown-like, but Ramona really pulled it off, and we are very impressed by the final result, which can only be described as ‘perfect’, judge Frederik Andersen said. He is the fashion editor of the Danish magazine Euroman. To Ramona’s own surprise, she also picked up the brand new Oh! By Kopenhagen Fur award, for the design with most commercial potential. The award was given by Tage Pedersen, the chairman of the Danish Fur Breeders Association, who presented her with a 4,000 USD cheque, and a two-week internship at Oh! By
Kopenhagen Fur.
fur in new ContextsIn terms of creativity, the homeware category usually delivers a wide range of designs. The audience had a hard time keeping a straight face, when four bicycles came on stage, each with a colourful fur seat cover that looks like the face of an animal. The creator of the seat covers, Rosita Gonzalez Skjelmose, got the idea from her everyday frustration of a cold bicycle seat. The simplicity behind the idea and the usability of the design impressed the judges, and Rosita won the category, with great cheers of the audience, one of them being Eva Kruse, CEO of Danish Fashion Institute. - I just love when the world of fashion and something as refined and feminine as fur can have a humorous expression. I found the
seat covers amazing, and I just love to see traditional materials like fur in new contexts, she said. So did the competition once again succeed in pushing the boundaries of fur design and innovation? Yes it did. Thomas Andersen, Workshop Manager at Kopenhagen Studio, who followed the students from sketch to finished product, has no doubt. - We are pushing the boundaries and creating more possibilities at a steady pace. This year we’ve several combinations of fox and mink, and almost all creations used different hair lengths in their designs. But it is the ideas and creativity of the designers that are the motor behind the development, he says. The winners will exhibit in various showrooms in Denmark.
“When creating fur clothing for men, you are walking on a knife edge. It can easily be to clown-like, but Ramona really pulled it off, and we are very impressed by the end result, which can only be described as ‘perfect’.”

In the contest ‘hyggelig’ is not just a feeling, it is the ability to spread happiness and harmony. Therefore, the ability to be ‘hyggelig’ is one of the main criteria to win Miss Happiness.

sPeed dating – a meeting with oPPortunitiesKopenhagen Fur is setting up the framework for joint ventures between Danish design and Chinese manufacturing. It creates mutual benefits for the parties involved. The concept has already been shown great interest.
by hans LØgstruP PouLsen
In September, Kopenhagen Fur initiated the first round of business speed dating in Copenhagen. The event assembled a number of Chinese and Danish companies from the fashion and clothing industry. It turned out to be an evening, where everyone participating fully seized the opportunity. In fact, the whole event ended up behind schedule because of the on-going talks. Kopenhagen Fur has joined forces with Danish Fashion and Textile, the industry association for Danish clothing companies to line up the best and most visionary Danish actors in the industry. Mr. Kenneth Loberg, Sales and Marketing Director of Kopenhagen Fur, sees the speed dating as a logical step to promote fruitful fashion cooperation between Chinese and Danish companies. - We wish to facilitate networking and
opportunities of growth within the fashion industry in China and Denmark. Kopenhagen Fur has the ability to disseminate our contacts between Danish and Chinese fashion companies. We wish to make Denmark the gateway between Chinese and European fashion, Kenneth Loberg says.
tivoLi is the hostThe concept of this business speed dating is to be understood as the opportunity to meet several business relations at a single event. Before the meeting, the companies involved are organised to ensure that they will meet companies, who match their interests and needs. However, the event still provides the opportunity to mingle freely. The concept attracted Danish politicians’ as well as Danish media’s attention. At the
next speed dating event on 11 December, Ms. Pia Olsen Dyhr, the Danish Minister for Trade and Investment, will be present. The event will be held at Nimb, the famous restaurant in Copenhagen’s amusement park Tivoli, which Kopenhagen Fur has established an official partnership with. Kenneth Loberg encourages Chinese customers attending Kopenhagen Fur’s auctions to participate if they wish to explore the possibilities of a partnership with a Danish company. - By bringing Chinese and Danish companies to Nimb, Kopenhagen Fur’s speed dating event offers the ideal setting to create future ventures. We simply wish to promote business relations between China and Denmark, Kenneth Loberg says.

the sLeePing beautyChristmas is a time of fantasy and adventure. And
what could be more enchanting than The Sleeping
Beauty with ballet score by Tchaikovsky?
The immortal story is the tale of a princess who pricks
herself with a spindle and who, rather than perishing
from her misfortune, is destined to sleep for 100 years.
Having slept for a century, the beautiful princess is
awakened by a young prince with a tender kiss – just in
time for the wedding bells.

Christmas in tivoLiIn last year’s Russian Christmas theme there were
no pixies, but this year the little pixies or gnomes (in
Danish: nisse) are back by popular demand.
This Christmas in Tivoli Gardens, guests are
welcomed by a new Nordic setting with Father
Christmas residing in the Pantomime Theatre, built in
1874. The stalls and decorations take inspiration from
Danish and Scandinavian traditions, and live reindeer
add to the Christmas feel.
A new addition to the scenery will be The Nutcracker
decorations linking the Gardens to the new splendid
production of the Nutcracker playing in the Tivoli
Concert Hall with set designs and costumes by Her
Majesty The Queen of Denmark.
Kopenhagen Fur is the proud sponsor of “Christmas

seLf-PortraitThe exhibition Self-Portrait focuses on the self-portrait
as genre throughout the 20th and 21st century,
showning 150 works by 64 international artists from
early modernism till today.
The exhibition tells the story of the transformations
of self-portrayal over time. As a genre the self-portrait
has undergone radical developments, and often it

a heLPing hand from the netherLands
We have participated in charity before, but I felt that here was an opportunity to both help a good cause and at the same time bring some attention to it. These kids have nothing, but the project gives them a chance to get a good start in life, and we want to support that, says Rien Leeijen.
had nothingToday, Leeijen is quite wealthy, and he is involved in a lot of things from mink to steel production, and in general he lives a very comfortable life. But it has not always been like that. He had eight brothers and sisters, and his father worked his fingers to the bone to provide for them, but there was never enough. Never enough money, never enough food, never enough of anything - Leeijen was the poor boy of the class. - I was the kid who had nothing, while
some of my classmates had everything. My life was not worse than the lives of many of the children that are lucky to attend the school project in Namibia, but I can relate to their situation.
It was hoped that the buyers would be willing to pay a little extra for the skins, when the profits were meant for charity. That wish came through. All 547 skins were sold and in total the auction raised just under 70,000 USD which will be donated to the children in Namibia. I am so happy right now, said Leeijen with great enthusiasm, when the last lot was sold. - With this money the project can help even more children and hopefully give them the tools to help themselves out of poverty. These children are the future, and we must make sure, that they are not left behind! To the question on whether the benefactors from Lion Mink Farms will donate their skins again Leeijen replies. - We might! As I see it, you come with nothing and you leave with nothing, and until then I will be allright with what I have.
The Dutch farmer Rien Leeijen, who owns Lion Mink Farms together with his brother Pierre Leeijen, woke up one morning, and felt a need for charity. The need manifested itself during Kopenhagen Fur’s April auction, when he donated four of the mink lots, that he had brought to the auction, to Kopenhagen Fur’s Namibian School project.
