Overall we were absolutely thrilled with the results of the survey as we have found a huge improvement in all areas. Our students have indicated through the survey that they are very connected to our school and that they feel safe, supported and engaged. The first graph below indicates our schools performance in regards to Excellence in teaching and learningand you will notice that the children certainly feel that they are being challenged and that staff have high expectations for their learning. The second graph, Positive Climate for learningexplains how the children are feeling in regards to their safety and their sense of inclusion and belonging within our school. Obviously, there is room for us to improve and as a staff we have discussed these results very carefully and have already made plans for future improvements, particularly in the area of Student Voice”. We are extremely proud of our schools performance – these results are the envy of many, many schools in our network. If you would like to find out more, please do not hesitate to speak to your childs classroom teacher or myself. LITERACY NEWS: In further exciting news, we recently received an email stating: Your school has been identified by the Department of Education and Training (DET) as a leading school in the area of primary literacy, [as a result] we would like to invite a staff member from your school to participate in a workshop to update the English Developmental Continuum F-10. The English Developmental Continuum F-10 is a document developed by the Education Department to support teachers in the planning and implementation of the English Curriculum for all teachers in Victoria. Rachael Stephenson and her Literacy team have worked tirelessly over the last few years re-writing the Victorian English Curriculum into child friendly language so that students can set their own goals in Literacy. They have also developed Moderation Documentsto help staff make informed decisions about student progress in Literacy, particularly in supporting teacher judgements around student progress and planning for future learning. This work at our school has been duly noticed by the Regional Office and our SEIL (School Education Improvement Leader), leading to our schools invitation to this workshop. I am extremely proud of my teachers and their dedication. It is a tribute to the whole staff that our small rural school can make such a wide contribution to education in the state of Victoria and that we are now identified as a leading school in the area of primary literacy”. Congratulations Rachael and the Literacy team! BOOK FAIR: I would like to extend a huge thankyou to PAFA and all the wonderful helpers who were involved in organising, setting up and manning the Book Fair last week. Thankyou also to everyone who purchased a book from the Book Fair – our school benefits immensely from this stall in the form of free books for our classroom libraries. Thankyou to everyone!!
