This is an initiative that Senior Constable Darren Ward offered to our school to help the children see that the police in our community are there to help us and they are a friendly face. All too often children are only exposed to police officers in relation to crime or critical incidents (or in conflict situations on TV) and Darren is very keen to show the children that there is much more to the role of a community police officer. Last week Darrens colleague Leading Senior Constable Peter Bell worked with the junior school and he is pictured below with Amelia and Lexi while they were engaged in their Soundwaves Spelling activity. All staff are very grateful to Darren and Peter for their willingness to be involved in our school in such a positive and pro-active way. They will continue to visit our school on a regular basis throughout the year. FOOTY CLINIC Last week we welcomed ten North Melbourne football players to our school to run a junior Footy Clinic for our Foundation to Grade 4 students on behalf of AFL Victoria and Auskick. It was a great thrill for the children to see so many high profile players and to be able to ask lots of questions at the conclusion of the clinic about what life is like for an AFL player. It never ceases to amaze me whenever we have visitors such as the police and these AFL players come into our school, how they all comment on what lovely children we have here at Nar Nar Goon. This is also a recurring comment whenever the children attend out of school events and excursions and in fact the reason why we have names of prospective parents wanting to enrol their children at our school up to three years in advance! Such is the reputation of our school in the network. We do have respectful and well behaved children and this is the very reason why we have so few problems in our playground and classrooms. As parents, you need to be congratulated for your ongoing support for our school and our staff by instilling in the children wonderful manners and exceptional behaviour. It is only through a strong home/school partnership (such as the one we currently enjoy), that we can continue to have such a positive vibe in our school. With this is mind, I would encourage you to talk to your childs classroom teacher whenever you have any concerns. It is only through frank conversations and actions to address concerns as soon as they arise, that we can nip problems in the bud. Again, on behalf of all staff, I would like to thank you for your ongoing support. CURRICULUM DAY NEXT TUESDAY (20 TH MARCH): Dont forget we have a scheduled Curriculum Day on Tuesday 20 th March (next week) where the children will not be required to attend school. Our staff will be working with Numeracy Consultant Michael Ymer for the day.

DIARY DATES

OPEN LEARNING Is beginning Week 1 of Term 2.

If you would like to help and have a current Working With Children Card, please let Ms

Cutler know as soon as possible so you can be assigned to a group.

It’s on again and we are registered!

Please start collecting your tokens and put them in the box in the foyer at the office.

The more we collect the more equipment we can get for our

school.

A Reminder………………. That if you have changed your email address you will need to resubscribe to our Newsletter mailing list. You can do this via the link on our website.

Please note that it is an expectation that students who attend sporting events, representing our school, should remain at the event to support their team!

ATTENTION PARENTS We would respectfully ask that every person who comes onto the school grounds between the hours of 9:15am and 3:15pm does so through the main office to ensure that we know who is on the school grounds at all times. We would ask for your cooperation as parents to ensure that if you have a message for your child or an item that needs to be delivered to the classroom that you ask the office staff to pass it on rather than interrupt the class and/or the teacher during instruction time. Anyone without a WWCC lanyard or Visitors badge will be redirected to the front office.

WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECK

It is a DET requirement & Nar Nar Goon Primary Policy that any volunteer in the school must have a

current Working With Children Check. This must be displayed at all times when you are in the school.

You can apply on line, at no cost as a volunteer, at the following link. www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au

You can then present your card to the school office so that details can be kept on file.

Your feedback is important to us. If you have a concern or would like to raise a complaint as a parent, please speak to the classroom teacher in the first instance, Team leader in the second instance (ie: F-1: Jodie Watt, Grade 2-3: Kimberly Feher, Grade 4-6: Jacqui Cutler). Otherwise, please contact the principal Mrs Fran Van Lambaart by calling the office to arrange an appointment.
