“Education is the key to the long-term problems of the country. If we fix basic education, we fic the long-term problems of the country. And if we fix the country’s problems, we will build a truly strong society we can proudly call the Philippines.”“We need to add two years to our basic

education… I want at least 12 years for our public school children to give them an even chance at succeeding.”

President Benigno Simeon C. . Aquino III

Our Current Basic Education Curriculum is congested

Philippine elementary education is comparable in length, duration and number of core subjects with Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia and Singapore. However a congested curriculum was noted especially in Mathematics, Languages and Sciences. Philippine secondary education is also congested. – SEAMEO Innotech, 2011

Unlike Brunei, Malaysia and Singapore which follows a spiral progression, basic education in the Philippines is discipline-based. It does not offer upper secondary education into disciplinary tracks with electives leading to specializations. – SEAMEO Innotech, 2011

a. A mother tongue-based multi-lingual education (MTB-MLE) will be used for instruction in

Kinder to Grade 3 classes after studies showed that students learn more when their language at home

is used in discussing the lessons in school.

b. For the first year high school curriculum, the lessons will be more interactive and meaningful to everyday life. This means that Science will be reflected in terms of its practical use. Science is to be integrated in all learning areas since it is a complex subject.
