ST. MARY MAGDALEN CATHOLIC COMMUNITY 5TH SUNDAY OF EASTER 29 APRIL 2018
ST. MARY MAGDALEN PARISH MISSION STATEMENT We, the Catholic Community of St. Mary Magdalen • Embrace our baptismal commitment to Christ • Live a life of faith, service, and worship • Seek to transform the world through prayer & evangelization
I AM THE TRUE VINE REMAIN IN ME AS I REMAIN IN YOU, SAYS THE LORD
Vine and Branches Last Sunday we heard the metaphor of Jesus as “the good shepherd.” In the Gospel reading for this Fifth Sunday of Easter, we will hear another metaphor for Jesus: “the true vine.” The metaphor of “the true vine” helps us stay connected to the life that the resurrected Christ offers each of us.
The Gospel reading from John today actually offers three metaphors: Jesus as “the true vine,” God as “the vine grower,” and we Christians as “the branches.” Like branches, we are connected to him and then through him to one another. It’s a great description of the Church! The readings for today teach us that we are a branch that bears good fruit when we put actions into our words, our profession of faith in Christ. We are called to be branch-es rooted in the vine of Christ. Word for the Day
The whole world is a series of miracles, but we’re so used to them
we call them ordinary things. Hans Christian Andersen

YOUR STEWARDSHIP TO GOD
Bishop Deshotel will celebrate a special Mass for Survivors of Violence today Sunday, April 29, 2018 at 2 PM at the Cathedral of St. John the Evan-gelist in Lafayette. Let us pray for all who experi-ence the tragedy of vio-lence.
SURVIVORS OF VIOLENCE
HANDICAPPED PARKING AVAILABLE Handicapped parking is availa-ble in front of Church Of ice behind the rectory. Please help parishioners and visitors to ind the handicapped parking area and the lift. Weekend of April 28/29, 2018—Jesus offers a quintessential stewardship statement in today's Gospel reading: "Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing." Jesus Christ offers us the fullness of eternal life. Do our lives reveal that this is what we want? Do we believe that by hearing the Word of the Lord and respond-ing we not only pro-duce "good fruit," but abide in the very life of God?
