SEPTEMBER 7th & 8TH IS CHRISTIAN SERVICE WEEKEND

First of all, Thank You! to all who contributed items for our pantry last month. Your donations allowed us to serve 73 families during the month of July.

Please help us restock our Christian Service Pantry.

We desperately need: Canned Goods, Cereals, Mac 8& Cheese, Tuna, Crackers, Vienna Sausages, Small Water Bottles, Sugar, Salt, Cooking Oil, Beans, Rice, Tomato Sauce, Juices, Milk, Baby Diapers (all sizes), Adult Diapers (S, M, L), Can Openers (for homeless bags). Zip-Lock Bags in Gallon & Quart sizes.

REFLECTION: We can go through our lives and never notice that some people are in need and deserving of attention. This is the essence of Jesus' story of the Rich Man and Lazarus (Luke 16:19-31): the rich man is condemned, not for what he has done, but for what he has failed to do -- he has failed to recognize the hunger and poverty of the man at his gate, Lazarus.

Jesus revisits this notion of not recognizing the needs of others in the Parable of the Last Judgment (Matthew 25:44-46).

Then they will answer, "Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not take care of you?" Then he will answer them, "Truly I tell you, just as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me." And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.

Jesus is warning us that, unless we adjust our vision, we risk looking right through and walking right by our neighbors in need, not recognizing their dig-nity as children of God. Jesus is alerting us to the danger of sins of omission.

To remedy this situation, the church provides us with this opportunity to serve our brothers and sisters in Christ.

On the weekend of September 7th & 8th you will have three options in delivering your gifts: 1. Your family will be invited to bring up your gifts during the Offertory at the Mass you regularly attend. 2. You may hand your gifts to a Bethany Center Volunteer in the church patio on your way in to Mass. 3. You may bring your gifts directly to Bethany Center on Monday or Thursday, 3pm to 7pm.

REFLEXION: Podemos vivir nuestras vidas y nunca darnos cuenta de que ay personas necesitadas que merecen nuestra atención. Esta es la esencia de la historia de Jesús del Hombre Rico y Lázaro (Lucas 16:19-31) : el hombre rico es condenado, no por lo que el a hecho, sino por lo que no hizo -- no reconoció el hambre y la pobreza del hombre a su puerta, Lázaro.

Jesús vuelve a repetir el no reconocer las necesidades de otros en la Parábola de El Juicio Final (Mateo 25:44-46)..

Estos preguntaran también: Señor, ¿cuando te vimos hambriento o sediento, desnudo o forastero, enfermo o encarcelado, y no te ayudamos? El Rey les responderse: En verdad les digo: siempre que no lo hicieron con alguno de estos más pequeños, ustedes dejaron de hacérmelo a mi. Y estos irán a un suplicio eterno, y los Buenos a la vida eterna.

Jesús nos avisa que, si no ajustamos nuestra visión, arriesgamos no ver a nuestros vecinos necesitados, no reconociendo su dignidad como hijos de Dios. Jesús nos esta alertando sobre el peligro de los pecados de omisión.

Para remediar esta situación, la Iglesia nos da la oportunidad de servir a nuestros hermanos y hermanas en Cristo.

El fin de semana del 7 y 8 de Septiembre usted tendrá tres opciones para entregar sus regalos: 1. Su familia será invitada a presentar sus regalos durante el Ofertorio en la Misa a la cual usted regularmente asiste. 2. Puede entregar sus regalos a Voluntarios del Centro Betania en el patio de la Iglesia antes de entrar a Misa. 3. Puede llevar sus regalos directamente al Centro Betania el Lunes o Jueves, de 3pm a 7pm.
