Autumn Programme 2011

Page 2: La Mama 2011 Autumn Programme

The year has got off has got off to a flying start, as we presented not only our own program but embraced the newly homeless Dog Theatre productions, The Baby Show and The Waiting Room.

2010 was a very artistically satisfying year and in part the large number of Green Room nominees reflect that. Congratulations to Peta Brady, Lou Bennett, Tim Stitz, Kelly Somes, Ashlee Hughes, Emma Valente, Andrew Gray, Nicola Gunn, Bec Etchell and winners Gary Abrahams and Thomas Conroy.

On Thursday 30th December 2010, we mourned the passing of La Mama’s loved son and Apricot Tree Award Winner Ralph McLean, with a garden funeral attended by over 300 of Ralph’s friends and family. We were all deeply saddened by his untimely death.

Come join us for our splendid and fulsome Autumn program.

by Fyodor Dostoevsky A New Adaptation

Directed by V.SubraPerformed by Scott Welsh and V.SubraProduction Manager - Kylie Anne Gral

An unannounced visit by Jesus Christ is greeted with unexpected welcome by a popular tele-evangelist, who remarks: why have you come now?

Fyodor Dostoevsky’s tale, The Grand Inquisitor, carries a haunting significance to the surging power of religious institutions where the promise of Paradise hereafter may conceal deadlier implications.

It’s 1997. The height of Brit pop. Ben and Bron are 23 and loving Fitzroy: the pubs, the bands, their own place.

Then Bron has an accident. Ben’s not ready for the responsibility. It’s a bittersweet symphony with hard questions asked and when all they want are playful nights out.

From an acclaimed season at La MaMa ETC New York in 2010 comes a tour-de-force monologue with physical theatre that explores how memory, fantasy and reality loop

and merge between women separated by age and history.

“…uncanny ease and fluency, offering characters who seem immediately both familiar and strange.…here, theater draws you toward something unassuming and real.”
