This coming weekend on Saturday June 1, the Diocese of San Jose will ordain two men to the priesthood: Victor Trinidad and John Huong. It will be a great blessing and joy for the families of these to men but also for the communities they will serve and the whole of our Diocese. We all know the soon to be “Fr.” Victor very well from his time serving his pastoral year at St. Lucy Parish. We know his kindness, his gentleness and the many gifts that he will be able to share with our Catholic Church.
But it is also a time to remind ourselves of what the Catholic Church ex-pects and desires Victor and John, and for that matter all Catholic priests, to be: men of prayer, men of service and men of integrity. This is only pos-sible in know God through Jesus Christ. Pope Benedict XVI called priests to be touched by God in his daily ministry, “In the call to priestly ministry, we meet Jesus and are drawn to him, struck by his words, his actions and his person… Touched by the radiance of goodness and love that shines from him, feeling enfolded and involved to the point of wishing to stay with him like it two disciples of Emmaus (Luke 24:29)… the Gospel minister is one who lets himself be seized by Christ, who knows how to "stay" with him… who enters into an intimate friendship with him.” ( p. 25 Pope Bene-dict XVI from “Priests For a New Era” ) (Continued on page 5...)
Este próximo fin de semana, el sábado 1 de junio, la Diócesis de San José ordenará a dos hombres: Victor Trinidad y John Huong. Será una gran bendición y alegría para sus familias, pero también para las comunidades a las que servirán y para toda nuestra Diócesis. El Padre Francis Kelly, al reflexionar más sobre esta invitación, escribe: "Cada sacerdote está llamado a compartir la experiencia de Jesús con Dios y luego presentarla a los demás con humilde sinceridad ... Each priest in being seized by Christ surrenders in obedient love to the will of God in becoming a servant leader in the image of the Good Shepherd.
Fr. Francis Kelly in reflecting further on this invitation writes, “Each priest is called to both share Jesus's expe-rience of God and to then present it to others with humble sincerity…Modern men and women are seeking God, and they look for a guide who himself has an authentic ongoing relationship with God and can speak to them convincingly about the divine mystery and stir up hope in their lives.” (p. 39 “Priest For a New Era” by Fr. Francis Kelly)
The soon to be “Fr.” Victor will come to celebrate Mass with us at St. Lucy Parish on Sunday, June 2nd at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception in the parish gym. All are invited to attend.
Please also pray for and encourage vocations to the priesthood and consecrated religious life.

The APOSTOLIC PENITENTIARY, by the mandate of the Most Holy Father Francis, gladly grants the pro-posed petition so that the faithful may always be inspired to translate into action to their lives the supernatural virtues, particularly Faith, Hope, and Charity, and strengthen their communion with the Roman Pontiff, to the foundation of the visible unity of the whole Catholic Church.

SVDP/Outreach Corner / Oficina de Servicios Sociales We at the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, St Lucy Conference want to acknowledge the gen-erous donations made on our behalf during the Easter Season.
St. Lucy Girl Scout Troops 62973, 61149, 60513, 62966 and 60447 who attend K-4, collected food to support our food pantry. The intent of the Girl Scouts event was to work together to live out their promise of serving God, our country, and helping others. The food was delivered on Holy Thursday as a way of starting the Easter Tridium.
The Catholic Daughters of the Americas gave our Conference a sizeable monetary donation. The funds will be used to provide fast food cards and non-perishable food items to the homeless that visit our office.
The Knights of Columbus had a food donation program during the Easter Season. Each Knight was asked to bring 40 cans of food, one for each day of the Easter Season. They generously chose our Conference to re-ceive a large non-perishable food donation.
The Conference members want to give a special thank you for choosing our organization as the recipients of these works of charity. We couldn’t do the work we do, without the generous support of the St. Lucy Parish and other philanthropic organizations.
Nosotros, en la Sociedad de San Vicente de Paúl, queremos reconocer las generosas donaciones hechas en nuestro nombre durante la temporada de Pascua.

The St. Lucy Pastoral Council is looking for new members to join the team of parishioners assisting Fr. Mark in a mainly advisory capacity. If you are interested in helping the Parish for up to a three year term and would like additional information about the opportunity, please feel free to contact Father Mark or Jim Miller at 408-377-5070.

Volunteer Opportunities / Oportunidades para Voluntarios SVDP/Outreach: Can you dedicate either two hours a week or two hours every other week between 10 am & 11:45 am to helping those in need? We espe-cially need bilingual volunteers (English & Spanish). We are also looking for a person to do data entry ei-ther in the afternoon or on the weekend. If you are interested, stop by the Outreach Office, email your contact information to [email protected] or call and leave your contact information at 408-378-8086. One of our volunteers will get back to you.
ALTAR DUTY MINISTERS: Do you ever wonder who takes care of the Altar linens and Candelabras for the Masses at St Lucy Church? It is a ministry of men & women from the Parish that volunteer to help one day a week for one month of the year. Training will be provided. If interested please call Betty Grim at 408-377-7467.
