A LIFESTYLE EXPERIENCE
While you’re here, take the time to visit and experience all that La Trobe’s Melbourne (Bundoora) campus has to offer:
ACCOMMODATION
Check out the three colleges, Glenn, Menzies and Chisholm which will be open on Open Day. Each college will offer tours, provide information, hospitality and activities throughout the day.
THE BORCHARDT LIBRARY
Take a tour of the Borchardt Library on Open Day, meet the friendly staff, and see for yourself the impressive resources on offer.
The Borchardt Library offers the latest in educational technology, providing access to the internet, databases, videos, multimedia software, electronic journals, and scanners. The collections of books and journals still comprise a large part of the library, and quiet and group study areas are available to students. But if we don’t hold what is needed, students can borrow from La Trobe University’s regional campus libraries or from other academic libraries around Australia.
Visit us at www.lib.latrobe.edu.au
THE COMPUTER STUDYHALL
Situated between Glenn and Menzies College, the central computing facility contains over 100 computers including both PC and Mac. Each computer provides full access to the internet and a large suite of software including Microsoft Offi ce, SPSS and Endnote. The facility is accessible to all La Trobe University students and has extensive opening hours, including the weekends, and provides a quiet computer study environment. The Computer Studyhall also acts as the fi rst point of contact for any student-related IT enquiries and provides a wide range of IT assistance. Drop in on Open Day and see how the Computer Studyhall can help you achieve at La Trobe University.
LA TROBE UNIVERSITY ART MUSEUM
Situated on the ground fl oor of Glenn College, the La Trobe University Art Museum holds a changing program of exhibitions throughout the year drawing on a collection of over 2000 post war and contemporary Australian artworks. Many of these works can be found throughout the University in our buildings. The Art Museum also operates as a resource to University teaching staff, providing cultural enrichment, education and research enterprise for the University’s student body, staff and wider community.
Visit us on Open Day and explore our current exhibition, "Bones of Contention" by Aboriginal artist Eddie ‘Kookaburra’ Kneebone. In this work Eddie tells the story of colonial settlement and its impact on the indigenous clans of the North East and Upper Murray region of Victoria. A compelling representation of what is often referred to as our ‘hidden history’, the exhibition is a work of enormous strength and emotional impact.
For further information, visit www.latrobe.edu.au/artmuseum or call (03) 9479 2111.
LA TROBE UNIVERSITY SCULPTURE PARK
Set amongst the bushland setting of the Melbourne (Bundoora) campus, the La Trobe University Sculpture Park comprises 17 works, an important and comprehensive sculpture collection which documents fi ve decades of Australian practice. Maps of the sculpture park are available from the University Art Museum.
SPORTS AND RECREATION
Visit the Sports Centre that includes a gym, a 25m indoor pool, tennis and squash courts and an indoor multipurpose stadium. The Sports Centre is open seven days per week and can be used by the general public as well as the University community. Visitors are welcome to visit the Centre on Open Day; we are located near car park 6. Further details about sport on campus can be found at www.latrobe.edu.au/sara
MELBOURNE WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
The Melbourne Wildlife Sanctuary provides an indigenous natural environment for conservation, education and research activities that support the learning and teaching objectives of La Trobe University. The 28 hectare site, adjacent to La Trobe University’s main Melbourne (Bundoora) campus, contains beautiful wetlands and woodlands that include 400 year old river red gums. The Sanctuary is home to 175 species of birds and mammals in a pre-European settlement setting.
The Sanctuary is used by many staff and students of La Trobe University for research and educational purposes, as well as being a great place to relax during a busy semester. If you’re involved in Tourism, Life Sciences, Archaeology and even Physiotherapy, you’ll make use of the Melbourne Wildlife Sanctuary during your studies. It’s one of La Trobe University’s (not so) hidden treasures.
Visit our display or catch the free campus bus to the Sanctuary on Open Day. While at the Sanctuary, visit our plant nursery. A large range of indigenous plants as well as bird and animal nesting boxes are available for purchase. Check out www.latrobe.edu.au/wildlife to view our live ‘Possum Cam’.
